Sydney Aquarium

Back in Sydney and we visited the Aquarium, where we got to see our very first duck-billed platypus! These are freaks of nature, with bills and webbed feet like ducks, but fur and claws like digging animals. They are one of only 2 mammals which lay eggs (the other's the echidna, also only found in Oz), and they have to shut their eyes when they swim underwater so they use their noses to find food. But seeing them clumsily flap about underwater is fantastic.

Along with the many, many fish, jellyfish, starfish, and other swimmy things, we saw some penguins (some of which only had one flipper), seals (one only had one eye), stingrays, turtles and sharks, with big, big teeth. Apparently the aquarium also operates as a sanctuary for injured or old animals.

Ice Bar

As a thank you for all she'd done for us, we decided to take our host Helen to the Minus 5 bar, where everything - from the tables, chairs, sculptures and even the glasses! - had been fashioned from blocks of pure ice! They dress you in a thick coat and gloves, and throw you into the sub-zero conditions for a maximum of 30 minutes (I think any longer and toes start to fall off). As you can imagine, it was pretty cool! (Ha ha...)

Night Cruise

Helen then kindly took us on a dinner cruise of Sydney Harbour, sailing through the bay overlooked by the twinkle of a million Sydney lights, absolutely beautiful. Not so beautiful were the actions of the good-looking young couple dragged up to dance by the boat's over-enthusiastic singer/entertainer - egged on by our host! - as they were forced to strut their stuff on an empty dancefloor in front of the whole boat!

However, all good things must come to an end. A few days later, we had to leave, but a massive thank you to John for putting up with us, and especially to Helen, who introduced us to as many exclusive Australian experiences as we could fit into a short time span, and ensured that our time in Sydney would be absolutely unforgettable!

Yoohoo!
Hello Eric and Eleni, Sorry for taking so long to write something on this amazing website. Dan and I are in the lovely Shoeburyness - I fear no longer your favourite place in the world Eric. Sounds like you're having an amazing time - great pics too, especially liked the carrot!!! For once the sun isn't shining in Shoebury, I'm gutted as it is near enough the only reason I visit Dan. Looking forward to having you back with us for a good catch up and story-telling session. Perhaps we could light a campfire and sit around it while you entertain us with anecdotes from the rest of the universe!!!! Keep up the fun times both of you, Love Sam and Dan xxx

Wow!! All my favourite fim characters in one visit!!! The jelly fish aren't wearing hats!! Helen and Eleni have a strange expression on their faces. However, the dancing technique looks great. Can I enter your names for the next X factor dance thingy on the telly? xxxxxxxx
