The car had to be back by ten, but we didn't get up in time to do anything much with it. We were satisfied we had seen everything we had too anyway. The family who runs Hotel Grotto is so nice, and even though we have only stayed one night we are so impressed by how friendly they are. Part of our stay was a complimentary breakfast, and wait for it - they had cereal. It was by far the best breakfast we had had in Greece, and my muesli fix was just what the doctor ordered. There was also natural yoghurt which was bitter, but also very nice. After breakfast we walked the streets looking for a camera shop which would charge our camera battery. After running out of camera shops, and there were lots, they forwarded us on to mobile phone shops, but we were out of luck. We found a little book shop where I bought 2 books, 'The Iliad' and 'The Odyssey', which I've always wanted to read.
We still had a bit of time to kill before we caught the ferry so we engaged in some meaningless walking around before sitting down in the sun. The
sun has been nice, but the wind has made sure it is still quite fresh.
When we finally boarded the ferry we were shuffled on to the top deck. The ferry was packed, and on our level there was music blaring at one end, and at the other end there was a choir. They were good singers, but they sang the whole way and they were loud. It wouldn't have been so bad, but we were trying to read and write, and we were crammed into these deck chairs.
The ferry made a stop at Ios, the famous party island, and I couldn't take a photo to show the boys back home that I'd been there because I was still stressing about the camera's battery.
We had a dodgy lunch that consisted of burger and chips take away, which I hate having to eat, but I was cheered up, and blown away when the views of Santorini came into sight and the camera was fine without the slightest hint of a battery light coming on.
The cliffs of Santorini were absolutely amazing with the little white houses ringing the top. I had seen heaps of photos, but to see it
first hand was breathtaking. Lucky the battery was in order as the camera got a fair work out. I dare not touch the camera now for setting off the battery, and Beck must be getting sick of me saying, "Did you get a shot of that?" "What about over there?" "Can you take another one just to be sure?"
This time we were lucky enough that our shuttle picked us up, because it would have been a huge hike up the windy road to the top of the cliffs. We were rapt that our hotel was virtually at the highest point overlooking the cliffs and water of Santorini. On checking in though we were a little disappointed that we didn't have a room with a view (as promised), the spa was cold, and we didn't have a telephone in our room. The rest of the room was really nice though. The view from on top of our hotel is fantastic, and if the spa was warm we may well have spent all three days on the roof.
Our hotel has really good views, but it is actually a bit of a walk to get to the shops. We walked
down looking for a camera shop that would hopefully be able to charge our battery, but we were still out of luck. We decided to bite the bullet and buy a disposable camera just in case the battery did run out.
We weren't really sure what to do with ourselves so we headed back up to the hotel. We had a good look around, and we found a place with amazing views that we decided to come back to later on for dinner. It was a bit pricey, but they took credit card which is something different in Greece! By now we had decided we were going to go on the boat out to the volcano tomorrow so we headed back into town to book our tickets and to jump on the internet. Before we got this far though we called into a little souvenir store, and on the way out we both noticed a couple standing near the door who had a camera that looked very similar to ours. We both (Beck and I) looked at each other before asking what sort of camera they had and if they had a charger. We were in luck! Rob and Katie
from Seattle gladly said they would charge our battery. A huge weight lifted off my shoulders.
We continued on into town, bought our tickets, and jumped on the internet. Our net surfing session finished just in time for us to head up and catch the sunset. There were heaps of people along the cliff front taking photos, and I think we got a few good shots as well.
Once the sun went down we headed to the restaurant we had chosen. Our meals were ok, I had seafood risotto, and while it was a bit expensive the backdrop was amazing and well worth it.

Great adventures Mr and Mrs Hyndman. The Year is flying so fast and we will have you both back soon! Can we say though - Danny, you must make sure Bec keeps her hairstyle (256 photo) when she gets back! It looks sensational, except Benajmin is jealous as he has lost his spikey hair now and his Aunty Bec has got it happening with her look. We hope that you both continue to have an unreal time and keep safe.
