Chasing Sea Gulls
Dave can't keep up It’s not far-fetched to read a travel blog and get lost in the words as you imagine yourself doing something you really enjoy, being out on the road and exploring. The experience is heightened when you are able to share this with someone. It becomes an even better when you take your dog along. Those of you who are fortunate enough to be the owners of these fine companions know exactly how this feels. The natural exhuberance that these four-legged explorers exhibit is in many ways how we react when we find ourselves in a new place. We take it all in using all our senses to ensure that we maximize the experience because it may be the only time we’re there. This of course is what dogs do when we take them on the road, only it seems that they enjoy it even more than we do. They bound out of the car and are instantly ready for action. The sights, the sounds, all new and ready to be instantly taken in, all while looking for more.
This blog is dedicated to all travelers who are fortunate enough to take their dogs with them, wherever they go,
Running the beach
Cannon Beach, Oregon because dogs really love to travel, be nomadic, meet new people, and at the end of a busy day of exploring, curl up and sleep the sleep of a contented traveler.
We lost our favorite traveling companion this week and wanted to find a way to honor her. During her lifetime she never lost the jest for jumping in the car, ready for another adventure. In the last few years we did have to help her into the car a bit, but that was also due to the fact that she was fairly short in stature, being a Welsh Corgi and all.
In the fourteen-plus years of her life, this pup pretty much had it going; she lived in eight states, visited over forty of them, and never passed up an opportunity to allow people to meet her, pet her and generally fawn over her. Nice work if you can get it. Those of you who have had the pleasure of meeting Miss Lillie know exactly what we are talking about.
Above all, she loved the beach. Running and barking and exploring the water. She would swim whenever we would let her, always keeping her on leash
as we were convinced that she might swim off, oblivious to us and enjoying the moment. It almost seemed as if she was smiling when she was there. At the end of the day she would be absolutely exhausted and awake the next morning ready to have at it again.
Driving with us, sometimes over ten hours a day never seemed to bother her too much. She would take up her position on the floor just behind the driver’s seat and settle in. You would check on her occasionally and she would seem to be resting comfortably with the vibration of the road putting her in some kind of zen-like state.
Arriving at hotel at night meant dinner and treats. She would waltz right in, look up at us as if to say, “fill the water bowl, I’m thirsty after a long day and while you’re at it, put down some food as well ‘cause traveling makes a pup hungry too!” You could take her out for a walk and many times she seemingly knew where the room was on the return. Never really figured out that one.
On more than one occasion, we would be loading
the car for a trip and she would either sit by the car or sometimes just hop right in. We guess that she was ensuring she wouldn’t be left behind. Any packing list included her bag and if we set that on the floor along with our suitcases, she just knew an adventure on the road was in the offing.
She will be sorely missed, especially on the next voyage. We hope that you will enjoy the photos, not only because they were taken at some pretty nice venues, but that you can take your dog so many places and know that they will have an experience that will bring both you and the dog endless joy and wonderful memories………..

I can imagine the loss you are facing right now. But remember she had a great dog life!
