My kind of paradise

Hawaii is the place for me. It did take 36 hours of travelling and 3 plane journeys to get here, but it has been totally worth it.

It has the sparkling sea and soft, sandy beaches which you see in all the travel guides, but you could get that in Mauritius, Barbados or tens of other places around the world. Hawaii has to be the only place which has this idyllic setting as well as adding that extra 'Disneyland' element which I love.

I haven't been to North America for almost 10 years, and coming back now has made me remember how much I loved it. After a day spent lying under a palm tree watching the surfers I can't think of anything better than oodles of all-American restaurants to choose from, all offering massive portions of my favourite foods and bottomless drinks.

In fact, there is one other thing that springs to mind. And that's the world's largest open-air shopping mall which is a 15 minute bus ride away. There are almost 300 shops there, everything is so much cheaper than back home and as the only English people I have come across so far we are loved by everybody.

I know this won't sound like everyone's ideal, but after 7 months' of backpacking around the world, communicating in languages I didn't even know the alphabet of and having to constantly watch out for scams, I can't stop walking around Hawaii with a massive smile on my face.

Still a little more travelling left to do though as we soon get a flight to one of the less developed islands to try to see lava flowing in to the sea and to star gaze from one of the best observatories in the world, so it's not all fun in the sun just yet.

I am seriously jealous :) i hope you're sunbathing enough for the two of us on that gorgeous beach!! only 1 month till my holiday.... *sigh* looking forward to having you home soon!!!
