We had great intentions of heading down to Wicklow, south of Dublin for a drive today but woke this morning to freezing winds and rain. We were told it might not be the best day for it as Wicklow is very cold and windy on a great day due to the mountains in the area.
We decided to head a little north of us to a town called Dundalk just a few kms from the coast and then dove back south on a very beautiful scenic coast road back to Rathkenny.
The Irish Sea is a beautiful and a very haunting sight. I can imagine it very unforgiving and very cold.
We drove through a tiny little town, which I think might be closely linked to a very good friend of mine......
The town is called 'TOGHER'.
Bernie I am not sure if this is where your family is from but we were just a little bit excited and think we gave some of the locals a bit to talk about.
Togher is just metres from the Irish Sea and very open to the elements and if your family are from there they would have seen some spectacular sights from the rolling seas and weather.
There is very little in Togher and the surrounding towns so when we saw the sign "Togher Church" we thought it was too good a photo opportunity to miss.
We turned the corner and to our delight was the most amazing and enormous old Cathedral. The pic's will tell the story.
There is also a beautiful grotto in front of it, so as the Cathedral is not in use, I said a little prayer at the grotto for your family.
There was also several grave sites but could only see that the church site was for past Priests of the parish only.

The rest of the small villages were also lovely but not one other in the 40 kms had a church so I am guessing Togher Church supported a very large and widespread community in its day.

All in all another fabulous day and very fitting for our last in Ireland.
Managed to buy Chris a kilt today so that he will look the part tomorrow when we land in Edinburgh Scotland.
Also he will be changing to his other poison Scotch Whiskey. Islay Single Malt of course.

We will be very sad to leave this wonderful country. Everybody from the builders(extension on the Thatch), neighbors(miles away), local Publican and drinkers (Sally Gardens Pub) and everybody else in Ireland a big big thank you for the most amazing week in this beautiful country.

We are looking forward to the next adventure on this wonderful holiday. Next stop UK and cannot wait to meet up and party with the family.

Lots of Love and hope everyone in the rest of OUR world are well.
Chris and Cath xxxx
