After 'melting like snowcones in Phoenix' in Phnom Penh we headed to the beach in hope of somewhere with a bit of a breeze. Now we've encountered a lot of bus journeys so far but this was the first to break down! Not too much of a problem though and we were going in no time! Once there we chose the nice quiet Otres Beach away from the main town and beaches.

After a few days lazing on sunbeds by the beach, sipping cocktails and KC being stung by a jellyfish, we booked a boat trip to discover the nearby uninhabited islands and do a spot of snorkelling. On our boat we became friends with a French/Cambodian family who really took us under their wing by taking us on an island walk, picking us mangoes and other Cambodian fruit and describing to us their experience of the Khmer Rouge and escape to Europe. A lovely family and all in all a great day out leaving the mainland.

Back on the beach we also made friends with some of the local Cambodian children and women who offer manicures/pedicures, bracelets, massage, threading - everything really! Some were very cute and friendly, others plain stalkerish, but we gave into a couple and rather decadently had our nails painted!!

Once again we were in a "beach hut" and I think it is safe to say that we have now become true hardened travellers! Seeing mouse droppings next to the bed in a morning we simply cleared them away without batting an eyelid and when a huge grasshopper fell from the ceiling it was a case of "do you want to get the door or scoop?". We really have seen it all!

On our penultimate day we took a remorque moto along the VERY bumpy dirt track into town for a bit of a change. Here we caught a glimpse of the main beach and can categorically say that we had made the right choice! Still melting from the heat we went to the "cinema". But this wasn't just any cinema! You get a private (air con!) room with fridge and get to pick your film. Just what the doctor ordered!

As we were catching a night bus we spent the last day chilling and sunbathing before watching one of the most amazing sunsets we have seen to date. A perfect goodbye to Cambodia!
