Singapore

We managed to fly out from Phuket, and despite all our complaining about the weather it turned out we were quite lucky as we heard people had to be evacuated from Ko Tao and flights in the south were canceled.

Okay Singapore, we arrived and got stuck into our first real hostel dorm experience which ended up to be a dorm full of men, Tory did not appreciate the smell! The first day we met Tory's friend Hannah for drinks and food at the hawker centre in Raffles Place - lovely and lots of choice and postponed going back to the hostel for as long as possible!

Tory's birthday!!! She woke up grumpy! Not to worry we had an exciting day planned although we spent a good chunk of the start of the day being held prisoner in a shopping mall (one of many in Singapore) after miss reading the signs for Sentosa Express. We got across to the island which was a lot of fun - think Disney world without the rides and a beach. We started with a morning luge and followed it up with a forest walk and an afternoon zip line - which Tory got for free as she was a birthday girl.

Will (the amazing boyfriend that he is) took Tory to an excellent restaurant for her dinner, it was very posh and they even asked Tory how she would like to be addressed. Miss Straker even got a chocolate cake with a candle.

Next day we moved out of the hostel and were rescued by Hannah and Tom who kindly let us stay with them which was brilliant. We met up with Tory's parents who had flown over from Hong Kong to see her for her birthday weekend. We visited the Genghis Khan exhibition and then off to a BBQ at a family friends.

After an amazing nights sleep we met up with Tory's parents and they treated us to a Tiffin lunch at Raffles hotel - in other words lots of posh curry washed down with Kingfisher beer! Then to the Long Bar for a Singapore sling and peanut throwing and a one hour photo slide show for Tory's parents - and that was just Vietnam - all you people at home beware slide show tour starts in Nov 2011 and we will be manning the exits!

"We all went to the zoo today, zoo today, zoo today - we saw lots of annnnimals and we had a Ben and Jerrys".

Guilty pleasures: bailing out of the dorm early. Red wine - none for 3 months and then 3 nights in a row!

Phuket - a slide show
Phuket - OK so how do you pronounce it? Alex was reading out your blog to us and I nearly pulled her up for swearing. Glad Tory had a great birthday. Not too happy about the extended photo slide show tour in November - is there a get out free card if you can prove you have read each blog entry and studied the blog photos in detail ....... Liz x

Should have stayed at Raffles
glad to see that you are slowly returning to a more decadent form of civilisation
