Its been awhile since my last update but I was nowhere near a computer and a lot has happened. The week of St. Patrick’s day was intense to say the least. Not only did a have a final but my good friend Tom flew into Roma. My St. Paddy’s day was unlike any other. It consisted of frantic packing, planning for Spring Break and of course Irish Car Bombs. Late on March 17th, Tom, 4 of my roommates and myself jetted off to London to start our spring break. London led up to its reputation; it was rainy and extremely overpriced. The pound definitely put a dent in the bank account. Although, London is very clean and there transportation system is far superior to any other. The obsession with the royal family is annoying but it was cool being a city as large as London. On Saturday night, I found a Chipotle and took down a burrito that was not only was 8 pounds in weight, that’s how much it cost. My body was not ready for a shock to its system like this and was sick for the rest of the stay in London. On Sunday, we stayed at a farm house bed and breakfast that was awesome and an hour outside the city limits.
Monday morning we took a flight to Shannon Airport, which is on the west coast of Ireland. I was extremely excited to get back to the emerald isle. As we arrived we went to our bus stop and found out they have recently changed their bus schedule. We had no choice but to rent a car and being the most experienced in navigating the countryside, I had to offer up my skills. We headed to the Cliffs of Moher, which are in contention for a natural wonder of the world. Then, we headed down to a bed and break breakfast in Limerick. Driving went without a hitch and allowed us to take our time and hit spots we would never have been able to see. We woke up the next morning and headed to Cork. On the way we stopped at some driving ranges and it was beautiful weather. We headed to Blarney and kissed the stone. It was a lot cooler than I expected and much more than just a castle. The roommates and I spent the night in Cork and was a pretty happening city. The next morning we woke up before the sunlight to drop of my roommate in the quaint coastal town of Kinsale to meet his family.
I spent the next 3 hours hauling on the ‘Rocky Road to Dublin’ to make it before noon to return the rental car. With each roommate passing out, I managed to get the car to the drop off point with an hour to spare. My driving time was over and I was happy and managed to only drive on the wrong side of the road once. Being back in Dublin, was a coming home for me. It is one of the few cities I could see myself living in. Many of my roommates hit the tourist spots that I did with my father the summer after High School and I just got lost in the city. It was awesome. We did spend around 5 hours in the Guinness Factory pouring and drinking our own pints but it was a great time. After the three nights, I hopped on a plan for the last leg of my journey to meet up with brother and dad in Amsterdam.
We arrived there and the city is impossible to navigate. We stayed on a house boat that turned out to be a great time. We rented bikes which may have been more dangerous than driving in Ireland. To be honest the weekend was a blur but it was a great way to end Spring Break.
Love,
S
