Hello everybody.
We had an easy and comfortable trip from Iquitos to Leticia by speed boat in about ten hours. As we reached to Santa Rosa Island we had very heavy rain for a long time. Santa Rosa Island is the border of Peru to Leticia of Colombia and Tabatinga of Brasil. Having our passports stamped we sailed to Leticia in 20 minutes by a public boat, 6 Soles each.
Leticia and Tabatinga although belongs to two different countries they are one town and you can pass from one another without any control. You can use both countries Money in both regions. The most interesting thing in Leticia is Park . At sundown thousands of birds gether together to sing. As it becomes dark the bird sounds ends.
We had two days in Leticia and the third day we took the boat to Manaus from Tabatinga. At Tabatinga Port the passengers have been searhed for drugs for two hours. We had a private cabin on the boat while most of the passengers slept on hamacs. We spent three nights, four days on the boat with very nice friends from Bask of Spain, France, Equator and Germany. At almost every
port we stopped, the ship and the passengers have been searhed again and again. It is expressed us that the drug from Peru and Colombia is passed through Tabatinga-Manaus riverway which is the only passage. Because there is no road between two cities. Amazon river is very wide and impressive. We had rain few times in a day. We had also sunny hours. Usually every early morning there was heavy rain. When the ship sails close to the shore one may hear the songs of the birds. The food on the boat was poor and we supported the meals by cafe on the boat.As a summary four days we really lived and felt Amazonas on this trip.
Spending one night in Manaus we took a Jungle Tour from the famous company, AMAZON GERO TOURS for three days. We enjoyed the jungle by our guide, Luis who speaks good English but can not read and write. He has learned English by practice. He is a native from the area. We had boat trips , allegator hunting, prina fishing, bird and pink dolphin watching, jungle trekking , visited 500-600 years old tree and a native family house. We met many people
Leticia, Colombia
faces from Leticia, Colombia from US and we had nice friend from South Africa .
On return to Manaus, we had a hotel problem. Our tour company shoul have reserved our two nights accomodation. But they didn’t get confirmation and the hotel was full. We were shocked. In half an hour the boss of the company, Mr. Gero arranged us a luxury hotel and paid the difference in price himself. He wanted us lo leave Manaus happily. We give our special thanks to him and his company, AMAZON GERO TOURS.
Today 10th April, 2011 we will visit some more interests of Manaus and spend few hours at the airport at night and start to fly back home in five steps, in two days. Manaus-Brasilia-Sao Paulo-Madrid- Istanbul- Izmir. This is the end of our South America Travel.
Many thanks to all of you for your kind interest to our blog.
