A mystical walk through Main Bazaar at dawn saw us arrive at New Delhi station and jump onto our favourite Shatabdi Express. However, we didn't expect to be the only people in our carriage not taking part in the school trip to Amritsar! You can only imagine the level of noise! Several hours later, we arrived in Amritsar, ear drums perforated and all. A lovely old man offered to take us and our very heavy bags on a cycle rickshaw - we tried to decline but he insisted, telling us he was very strong. He was - until we got to the hill where we had to get out and push that is, but we made it!
The Golden Temple, heart of Sikhism, is the main attraction of Amritsar which we visited many times - dawn, day, dusk and night along with the 60-80,000 pilgrims who visit this place daily! A truly serene site and magnificent building.
We made the most of being so close to make our way to the India-Pakistan border to see the closing ceremony which we got to watch as VIPs but only after a very long and bumpy ride. The show was truly spectacular,
lots of fun and very endearing to see how proud people were to run up and down with their flags.
