Arriving into Hawaii, this time I LOST 4 hours of my day (which made a nice change, although again took adjusting to). After all that travelling, I intended to simply spend the entire 6 days lazing by the pool in the Sheraton Hotel (which is right on Waikiki Beach) simply with my nose in a book, sunbathing. Well, as luck would have it, it rained for 5 of those days so I only got 1 day of lazing around. The remainder of the days I occupied myself with long lunches/dinners, walking around, shopping etc. Talking of food, I am not in the least bit surprised a lot of Americans are so overweight. Their meals are HUGE - I could never finish one of them and one of their favourites seems to be fries with cheese on top, as its on most menus.
I really recommend the Sheraton - it has superb views, is right in the heart of Waikiki and has both a kids pool with slide, plus an infinity pool that only the adults are allowed in. I got the Sheraton at a really cheap rate through Hotwire, where they had a surprise Hotel offer which they told you
which Hotel it was after you booked.
Before booking, I read through all the reviews, which didn't tell me much until I came across this one person talking about the infinity pool, and as I knew only the Sheraton had an infinity pool, I booked it. Hotware then confirmed it WAS the Sheraton. So instead of getting my room for $275 per night, I got it for the wholesale rate of $139 per night - although they still charge a "resort fee" (for internet, phone calls etc.) of $25 a day. However, worthwhile doing research.
One thing about the infinity pool - the poolchairs are on a first come first served basis, however, I discovered that individuals get up at 4.30 in the morning bringing down 8 towels in one go, and place them on the best poolchairs at the front, overlooking the pool. I even caught a little old lady on a walking frame doing this - unbelievable. Consequently, by 8.30 a.m. all the chairs at the front are already taken, irrespective that no-one is in them. How did I discover this - when I first got there I was still on another timezone so went down
to the pool at 4.00 in the morning to see dawn. I was disgusted to see these people doing that - not at all fair of them.
Anyway, by the time this 3rd week had arrived, I was beginning to feel like I couldn't face another meal or cocktail as I'd had so much over the weeks - really great food I might add as Americans do the best salad dressings and always have such a variety on their Menus. Needless to say I'm over such a stupid thought by now. :-)
