My first steps... imagined and wanting to be painless and easy - but as reality hit, what a debacle!

Before I had even taken off my mind (half asleep due to the early morning flight) was already having to contemplate the reducing odds of making a tight turnaround at Melbourne airport as I waited aboard my first aircraft for over an hour for fuel to be added and then waited again for an Air Pacific flight to be taxied off the runway after discovering technical problems... hmmmm, glad I wasn't on that flight!

The delays toying with my emotions, as I hung onto my last few precious moments on NZ soil. My fractured mind was battling the sheer excitement of what was to come with the soma feeling of what I was leaving behind - A beautiful country and a multitude of beautiful, wonderful people.

As they say every cloud has a silver lining and although I had now missed my connecting flight out of Melbourne into Sydney, meeting up with a friend (Debbie) who had departed NZ on her own personal unattached mission was a very pleasant surprise.

Thanks for the teary eyed send off folks. Thanks for turning up drunk from the night before Chris… that’s awesome!

Onwards...

Sidenote: Are aeroplane toilets getting smaller? How do people have sex in there?! I can see great potential for serious injury here or at least an akward moment when trying to explain to the flight attendant why your girlfriend is stuck between the mini sink and soap dispenser. Top marks to anybody who is part of this exclusive skinny mans club.
