Day 9 - Dec 29 - Buenos Aires - Palermo, Recoleta & San Martin Areas.

First of all, I had always read that Buenos Aires (BA) was the Paris of South America. I must agree with their assessement after a busy day of explore the city today. Statues and parks seem everywhere and the architecture of many of the buildings looks as it does in Paris.

I woke up around 7:00 am this morning while Ken was still sleeping. I went down to explore the hotel to see what they had to offer and also had breakfast. I also spent time looking at their brochures the hotel had on what to do in BA. They are many thing to do and see here in BA. After Ken had breakfast, we sat out to explore Palermo where we are staying. Their are lots of caffee, shops and restaurants. Very pretty town with cobbled streets lined with trees. We stop at the one of the cafes to tried their pasterries, coffee and of course their Dulce De Lulce (the caramel sauce that our friend had recommend). After the cafe, we headed back to the hotel and decided to do a Bike city tour. We chose a bike tour that took us to Recoleta and Palermo to get a better idea of these areas (Recoleta is where Evita was barried.) In order to get the bike tour starting point, we decided to walk all the way from our hotel to downtown by the San Martin statue. That way we would see many of the parks around this area of the city. Much to our surprise, our bike tour then took us back over about 90% of the same route we just walked. I looked at Ken and smiled and said that we had just done this tour on our own! Oh well - at least we were then given explainations of what we had already seen. Some of it was new though including most of Recoleta as well as some interesting places downtown.

The bike tour took about 2-3 hours. After the bike tour, we walked around the San Martin area including Florida street which is a very fun, touristy area of shops and beautiful french architecture buildings. We saw a lot in BA city today. We are now back to our hotel. Time for clean up and go to check out Palermo night life. I know that people don't go out until later but hope we can find something to eat at one of a nice restaurants in Palermo.

Tomorrow, we will continue to explore more of the city including La Boca and the San Telmo areas. We are also hoping to take the ferry to Uruguay to see the colonial town.

Here are some pictures around BA:

hey guys, Todd and I enjoyed Buenos Aires so much when we went there too!!! The Recoleta was worth going. I don't know how far Iguassu falls is but you shoukd check that out if you get a chance. It is one of the best waterfalls there is. Do an Argentinian ranch tour if you can...
