This is the view from the bell tower right across from the basillica.
Our last few days in Venice, we spent exploring the outer islands, including Lido, Murano and the Cemetary Island. Lido was actually surprisingly peaceful and relatively tourist free. We went on Easter Sunday, and walked down to the main church where people were still hanging out, chatting after the service. I guess no matter what faith or where you are, you still stand around and gossip afterwards. After the church we headed down to the beach. Lido is the resort Island of Venice, they have a golf course and horseback riding, they also have cars on Lido which was quite weird to see after being in main Venice where it is just people and boats. It was a long but nice walk to the beach and back. The beach it’s self wasn’t that great or maybe I am just spoiled after the Australian beaches, but it was still nice. It was pretty deserted though, we only saw about 3 or 4 families. After Lido we headed to Murano, which is famous for its glass. We saw a demonstration and poked our head in a few shops but everything was out of my price range. Besides Lido and Murano, we also went to the Cemetary Island, which is the final resting place for Venetians from around the 1300s to today. They have a really cool looking church there as well that dates way back to the 10th century.
We also spent some time back in the main square before we left. We went up to the bell tower, for some amazing views of Venice from a bird’s eye view and ate a final Venetian meal of pizza.
To sum up our time in Venice…the top highlights:

The Food- I don’t know what they do to make it taste so much better there. It is so delicious and cheap.

The Grand Canal- Okay so it might not be the cleanest thing in the world, and it may smell at times, but I never got tired of riding up and down it.

The Atmosphere- Train Ticket- 40 Euro,
Hostel- 30 Euro per night
Being woken up at 12:30 am by a group of drunk Italians outside your window singing “Shake your booty” half in English, half in Italian.-Priceless.

Anyway I am back in Zagreb now and it is warming up to be a beautiful spring. Time has flown by and I have less than 3 weeks until I begin my big adventure. Two weeks backpacking around western Europe before I fly back home and face reality and *gasp* my credit card bill! I also want to thank all of you who have left comments on here over the past year, it is good to know that somebody is actually reading these things. Until next time- Jodi

While Lido had cars, this seemed to be the preffered mode of transportation.
