Country No. 3. Arrived safely and enjoying the upgrade from hostel to hotel. A very interesting place with lots of variety. Food is good and cheap, loads of outdoor eateries. The river chaophraya has all forms of transport on it, cross river ferries (6p), fast ferries that really are as quick as the rail service and long tail boats - aquatic, turbo-intercooled drag racers that absolutely fly down the staight sections of Bangkok's canals, a lot of fun. Next stop, Phuket.

Bangkok
Bangkok sounds like a modern city. Is it big enough to be called a city? Now you'll be wondering how big is big! And the foods - you must have enjoyed quite a variety of cooking styles. Write down some simple receipes, or rather the spices that go into them. This is a wonderful time for a trip round the world for you. Later might be too late. Don't know much about Phuket It's an island isn't it, but off where? Dad enjoyed his day at St.Clare's. You know sitting in his chair he looks quite like normal, it's only when he gets up and walks bent over that you realise how frail he has become. You're not going to India are you? Lots of luv from dad and me, mum xxx PS didn't recognise your voice this morning. Must be getting deafer.

Dad and I plan to do very little today. He enjoyed his usual Friday visit to St.Clare's and found it very sad that nearly all the people there have no more than a few months to live. I don't think he included himself in that number. That cheered me up. Where do you think you'll be on Christmas day - I would suppose Australia. By the way, where is OZ and what are aquatic turbo-intercooled drag racers? I thought dragon boats were propelled by men rowing. love from dad and mum xxx
