Citadel
We pulled into Sighisoara under a grey, foggy sky and you guessed it, in the rain. We were approached on the platform by Andrej, a Romanian hostel worker, who took us to Nathan's hostel which was only a short walk from the station. Apart from us, there were only 3 other people staying at the hostel so it was pretty quiet.

We went to a bank and took some money out. The Romanian Lei is going through a transistion period to try and avoid inflation and as a result, they are using what is basically two currencies. Not only is this confusing but the fact that in the old currency, 1GBP is 50,000 Lei means that we are stuggling to work out exactly what we are spending. The numbers are just too bloody long!! Still, it feels nice to be a millionaire!

We walked to the supermarket and bought some ingredients for a fry-up - having only eaten a couple of ham and cheese sandwiches the previous day, it was nice to re-nutrify ourselves (as much as a fry-up re-nutrifies you!).

After eating, we walked into the town, which is orientated around an ancient citadel. The town itself is nothing spectacular althought the rustic, cobbled alleyways of the citadel really took you back through time. The highlight of the citadel for most is the Casa Vlad Tepes. Also known as Count Dracula, Vlad the impaler as he is known was born in Sighisoara and the house in which he was born is situated in the town's citadel. Now a restaurant and tourist trap, the house itself is totally unspectacular and we gave the exaggerated tourist prices in the restaurant a wide birth.

Apart from the citadel there is not really that much to see or do in Sighisoara, so we bought some beers and went back to the hostel, where we found some of the hostel staff also indulging in cheap local brew. The casual drinking ended when I suggested a game of "Circle of Death" and we ended up giving our livers a proper pounding. At 3:30am I decided enough was enough and after a sleepless 40-odd hours dragged myself up to my bunk and passed out.

Yo!
Alright boys, sounds like its all going well. Things seem to have gone reasonably smoothly so far, although it sounds like the weather's been a bit mixed. You aren't missing much over here except Newcastle and City doing well(something I never thought I'd say in the same sentence!). Could still be a good season for both our teams Joel! Adam if Arsenal win the champs lge, I'll buy you five pints next time I see you (you know I always honour bets). Keep the updates coming, its interesting stuff! Budapest sounded quality. Glad its all going well. P.S Where are you boys going to be in September?
