The light house at Dondra head was a must to visit as it is the southern most point of Sri Lanka and there is no land between it and Antarctica.
Climbing it was a bit of task but as with most things difficult, it was well worth the effort, the views - I am running out of superlatives! The photos do not do it justice.
There were so many beautiful places but one of the loveliest was Mirisa. It was perfection. A secluded cove, little rocky pools and shady palm trees, the only problem was that they were renovating and the place looked like a builder’s yard. I said no to that and set off again.
Thank goodness that I didn’t still have grumpy gums the driver, Sam didn’t mind at all that we looked at every beach along the way. But his suggestion proved right again and so next stop - Ahangama.
Right on the beach again and this time I chose an upstairs room with wonderful views.
This is a really lay back, Bob Marley sort of place.
Hammocks here and there, tables and chairs on the beach, boogy and surf board to
use and a great little outdoor restaurant. The sea is perfect for swimming with good waves but quite shallow.
Yoga on the beach in the early morning was such a good start to the day.
I have had a comment that I must be the tourism minister for Sri Lanka, maybe I could apply for the job, I have probably seen more of the country than he has.
One night left and that was at Negombo, where Sam, my driver lives. Also a lovely beach front place and very close to the airport and as I had to be there by 5.30.a.m, a good choice. It was a quiet dinner that night with a few drinks.
The next morning it was a sad farewell to a country that had given me three fabulous weeks.
I know I will be back again and soon, hopefully next October. Want to join me?

Thanks for the great pictures and the writeups...I too keep going back to Sri Lanka possibly for the same reasons you do...what a lovely place... btw, ever thought of submitting some of your pictures to National Geographic's "Yourshot" site?
