On Top of the World!!
Or so we would think, from way up here! Yep. It's us. Again. I know, months go by without hearing from us, and then you get hit with four blogs in the space of a week. Sorry. It's just been such a great week!!
Yesterday was (more than likely) our final day up the mountain, as the lifts are closing on Sunday and we're due for some rotten weather this weekend (bummer). Taking advantage of the most crystal clear, warm, gorgeous day you could ever imagine, Jeremy, Stacey, and I grabbed our boards, slathered on some sunscreen, and headed on up to enjoy the last good day of the season. We opted for the other side of the lifts this time, "Shadow Basin," and found ourselves taking an impromptu hike up to the crest of the mountain range (not actually that far, but tough to breathe at 8,000 feet while sloshing through soft snow and carrying a stupidly heavy snowboard). When we got to the top, though...oh, wow, was it ever worth it! So worth it, in fact, that we went flying all the way down the mountain to the parking lot to retrieve our cameras from the car. Up we went again, trudging, panting, gasping, wheezing...and right at
And the Winner Is...
In the battle of Jeremy vs. the Mountain, the decisive winner was...the Mountain!! (I am incredibly proud of this photo.) the top, I slipped. Hit my knees. Totally fine, but in the process, I kind of dropped my board. Which kind of hit the steep icy slope. Which kind of took off at about 100MPH ALL THE WAY back down to where we started!!! As I watched my board sail away from me, my only thought was..."Where the heck are the palm trees?"
My loving and devoted husband offered to take a trip down to retrieve it for me, so he did a little hike up the slope to an appropriate location while Stacey and I went crazy with the cameras. Jeremy had a great run down, gathered my board, and then (poor guy) proceeded to hike back up carrying BOTH of our boards (which probably weigh more than he does). By the time he caught up with us, dragging his weary body, gasping for breath, and sweating profusely...yeah, we were just laughing. I eventually went down to help him, but only after taking a few more pictures. *sigh* My hero.
The rest of the day was fairly uneventful...just lots of flying through the slushy snow and enjoying the pristine day. Jeremy made a valiant attempt to do
a little jump going up a steep hill...but it didn't exactly go so well. He went too fast into the gully, ran out of snow at the top...and kept going up. Apparently, he managed to do a back flip (sort of), got halfway through it, landed on his shoulders and neck, and then miraculously got his feet back under him and kept going...all in one smooth motion. Alas, I missed this fiasco, as I was boarding elsewhere, but I heard from Stacey that it was quite the sight to behold. Luckily, I had the camera for his second attempt of Jeremy vs. the Mountain, and, well...that one didn't go much better. You gotta love the guy for trying, though.
So!! Here we are, exhausted, sunburned, sore necks (in Jeremy's case)...beginning our final week in NZ. Hard to believe it, but this time next week, we'll be in Australia, on our way to Singapore (which will take a mere TWENTY HOURS - ugh!). This time next month, I'll be starting my first day of Thai massage school in Chiang Mai. And two months from now...we will be sitting in good ol' North Palm Beach, sipping iced tea under a palm
???
I have no idea what happened in this shot, but it looks so cool!!! tree (on that note, you should TRY to explain the concept of iced tea to people of British descent. Seriously. They look at you like you've lost your mind. I've eventually just given up). So, with all of that said...hope everyone is well!! We love and miss you all and will be seeing you very very soon...

Lucky!!
Amy and Jeremy: What fantastic photos. Spring time is really beautiful down there, isn't it??!! You were lucky with that runaway board, though. Around these parts, the only bigger no-no than a runaway skier is a runaway board(s). They can be lethal and the ski-hills tend not to be too amused when it happens. So ... you're almost on your way. Bummer! Those spring flower views were great, would love to see some of the countryside. (special request) BTW - I was most interested to learn that the Kiwis weren't up on the concept of Iced Tea. Now that surprises me. When you get home, you'll have to send them a tin for their edification. cheers, Joe Smuin
