On our field trip
Enjoying the beautiful morning with Elvira and Katy I spent last week traveling about Guatemala. First, I went to Parramos which is the pueblo that I went to church in last year when I was studying in Antigua. I went to church and spent the night with the pastor's family. It was such an AMAZING time. I hadn't seen them in almost a year and a half, but it seemed like no time had past. They are such welcoming and caring people. In July, Barnabe and Nirma had another baby who has a rare blood disease so Nirma and the baby are living in a hospital in Guatemela city so she can be monitored, and Bernabe and the kids are still in Parramos. They have been living like this for almost 2 months, and it seems that they will be continuing to live like this for 2 more 😞 Please pray for their family. The baby's name is Nirma. Still, the love of God is so evident in their house. Tuesday night was the church service and catching up over coffee and dinner, and then Wednesday, Bernabe, the kids, and I went to play soccer at the park and enjoyed some ice cream (at 10AM). Then, a woman from
the church invited me over for lunch, and I don't think I have ever felt so welcomed somewhere in my entire life. It was so refreshing to experience God's incredible love from my family in Parramos.
Wednesday, RAINA arrived to GUATEMALA 😊 We spent the next 6 days covering a lot of land area of this beautiful country. We stayed in Antigua with my host family from last year, traveled 8 hours to Semuc Champey to hike, swim, and explore caves, visited Lake Atitlan (one of my favorite places in the world), and then returned to Antigua so she could take a shuttle to the airport. We spent so much time in different forms of Guatemalan transportation, but it was still such an incredible trip. The times on the busses were some of my favorite talking, sleeping (well Raina sleeping), and seeing more of beautiful Guatemala. I was so so blessed by her coming- it was perfect timing for some solid fellowship with one of my closest friends from home. THANKS RAINA!!
In Xela, time has been flying! I cannot believe that tomorrow is October! Before I left to travel last week, the shelter of Nuevos Horizantes had
a field trip. It was really fun to be outside the shelter with the kids. We just climbed some of the mountain to an open grassy field (with beautiful views of Xela), but it was so fun to see the kids enjoy being outside and in a new place. Tomorrow, we have a party at the shelter because it is Dia del Nino (Day of the Child) in Guatemala. In Caras Alegres, we are still having English class on Tuesdays and Fridays which the kids really love. AND, I really love this time too-we have so much fun. Wednesdays, I go with the swim teacher and 10 little girls to a hotel for swimming which is so precious. The workers and kids of Caras Alegres are just so great. I am in love!
God is also opening up some other possibilities for the months to come; please keep praying for my time here that I can sense what I am meant to do!
I miss home! Go Buckeyes and enjoy some beautiful fall weather for me (I'll enjoy some beautiful rain for you 😊)
Love and Prayers, Steffi

You're welcome-thank YOU for doing so much work and enduring so much stress, water, heights, broken down busses, and lack of sleep to show me the country! It was an incredible experience :) Love you!
