Sawasdee Chiang Mai

We are sitting at Bangkok airport waiting for our flight to Chiang Mai and reflecting on our time in here. We have had a ball but we are sad to be leaving even though we are looking forward to the next leg of our journey. We have met some wonderful people along the way, mainly from Australia and a young couple from Ireland who were on their honeymoon and had come over on the same flight as us on a 2 night stop on their way home from oz.
We were also reminded on several occasions by certain nationalities why there are so many unpleasant travel stories around. This reminds me of something colli asked me when we were greeted by our favourite singers Judy and Bert with a very warm hug and kisses from Judy and an equally warm smile and handshake from Bert, she turned to me and said what is it about us that leads to being greeted like this by the staff when we return to places we have been before. I put it down to the fact that unlike some others we try and engage the locals on a personal level and at least try and use a few basic phrases to communicate with them and accept that “we are not in Kansas anymore toto” so accept that not everything will be the same as “where we come from” as we hear so many people say when they are complaining about something.
After a very brief and thankfully not very full flight we arrived in Chiang Mai, an even shorter drive and we were at the hotel. It is a very grand entrance to say the least and I will try and take some photos that do it justice when we get a chance. It is definitely much quieter here from what we have seen so far although that has not been much as yet as we were both pretty wiped and after having a very large and nice (cheap also) buffet dinner in the hotel we came back to the room to have a rest before heading out to explore then don’t remember much until waking around midnight lol. Oh well plenty of time to explore the next few days, tomorrow we are off to the Tiger Kingdom in the morning followed by the Zoo & Aquarium in the afternoon.
Bye for now,
Paul & Colli
