The birthday boy was clearly having a great time.

Huanchaco

We arrived in to Trujillo at around 9AM - a couple of hours late due to road works during the night. Kyle and Tahlei were waiting for us. We had a quick coffee at a cafe across the road from the bus terminal and then jumped in a cab and headed to Huanchaco - a little beachside town around 20 minutes away from Trujillo.
We went to a couple of hostels in Huanchaco and ended up at one called “My Friend”. We got two twin rooms with ensuites for the princely sum of 10 soles each per night. That’s about $4 Aussie. I thought that it was cheap in Lima where a double with ensuite was 75 soles! We spent the day wandering around Huanchaco, checking the surf, the little church overlooking the town and the markets in the town centre. There were dogs everywhere and, though I’m sure many of them were stray, they were all very friendly. We had a bite to eat at a beachside cafe, where we were served Cebiche (raw fish marinated in lemon and lime juice) and lomo saltado (a pork dish served with rice). 7 soles each and a damn fine feed! We went back to the hostel for siesta and then Kyle, Tahlei and I cracked our first beers at around 3:30PM. It was Kyle’s birthday and we had to celebrate! The Boss was feeling a little worse for wear (she’d spent something like 14 hours on a plane and then 11 on a bus in two days) but she joined us a little later in the evening. We ate dinner at the hostel bar/restaurant and continued to drink. Happy hour was from 8 - 10 and meant two for one cocktails. We sampled a fair part of the menu, pisco sours being the drink of choice for myself. We were joined by Jess, a Swiss girl with a Brazilian father who was in town to take advantage of the left-handers and later by Alex, an American who loved the mountains.
(Quick aside in the vein of “It’s a small world” - Jess had spent time working at the Banana Bungalow in Maui two years ago and asked if I had met a Swiss guy there with long black hair named Demis - the Italian-Spaniard Swiss guy from the Banana Bungalow whose name I couldn’t remember. She knew him from Switzerland, not

Yes, that is a number of Latinos standing back and just watching what an amazing dancer I am.
the Bungalow, but still, isn’t it a small world!)
At around 10PM we jumped in a couple of cabs and headed in to Trujillo to one of the clubs. We were joined for the ride by Walter, a local who worked at the hostel. The club was in a huge westernized shopping mall and was free for girls but we lads had to pay 20 soles for entry. Drinks were around 8 soles for a beer and 14 for a vodka or a bottle for 140. We bought a bottle and got stuck in to that. As the place started to fill up we decided that the dance floor was embarrassingly empty for a Latin bar, so we all took to the floor and did what white people do worst.
The night was great fun, if a bit of a blur. The Boss’s high light was getting locked in a toilet cubicle (the latch got stuck) so she climbed in to the next stall, where a girl was doing her business. “Hola,” she said to the shocked girl on the can and walked out the door. Jess was standing at the basins washing her hands. “You left the stall door open and the girl’s still peeing.”
We got cabs back to Huanchaco at around 2ish, though not before hitting the hamburger/hot dog stand out the front of the cab. A great night and as good a way as you can get to turn 26. Happy birthday Silverback.

You got photos!
I'm so glad you got some photos of that night! I don't have any. I certainly don't remember any of it either. Good times.
