On arrival at the Zim side of Vic falls we sat down to a presentation of the optional activities available, but this time we wouldn’t be partaking. We had a quick lunch and went to watch the other’s bungee jump from the Vic Falls bridge. Feeling equally as nervous we were quickly signed up as photographers and camera men as our mates took a leap of faith on the bungee, gorge swing and flying fox. Duties all but done we hurried back to camp as we were swapping trucks and hence crews we had another predeparture meeting to attend at a difference camp site. We made it in time for the taxi to Tokkie Lodge for a quick briefing with our guide Jack and substantially smaller crew of just six… including us! Eva and Chris the only ones joining us from our first week and Chris and Becca. With just enough time for a quick cold shower we made the next taxi for our last supper at Boma Restaurant. But this was more than a restaurant. On arrival we were greeted by a gentleman dressed in traditional attire, next we were all dressed in a traditional dress and
face painted. We entered a huge traditional grass thatched open air building where we were escorted to our table. After a buffet entrée of smoked baby crocodile tail, impala terraine, grilled vegetables, mushroom and feta pastries, salads, grilled vege, bread and soup. We moved to bbq sirloin, pork sausage, borswurst sausage, ostrich kebabs, eland and warthog steaks, rice, vege, pap, potato, potoje (stew). And finally freshly cooked crepes and a mass of desserts. Carly tried out the mokapani worm (certified certificate and photo’s available as proof!). Throughout the dinner there was traditional dancing and following dinner an entire restaurant interactive drumming lesson concluded with a group dance off. The whole experience was amazing and well worth the 35bucks. We returned to Shoestrings for some final farewells, drinking and dancing at the bar.

After a failed attempt at a sleep in we designated the morning to our jobs list..charging just about everything electrical, washing just about everything we owned and repacking the lot. After failed email attempt at the campsite, we failed to find an internet café with skype and failed to get the mobile to call home… but we are alive and well. We wandered through town,
checked out the curio markets and into Vic falls. We checked out the view from all 16 open lookouts (minus the cataract which was closed for renovations) , impressed but just how close and how much more you see compared to the Zambia side. We took pics at the main, horse shoe and our favourite rainbow falls at danger point. We watched some guys climb out of the devils pools (right on the edge of the falls)…..CRAZY and got soaked through. We stopped to watch some more daredevils bungee from the bridge getting a true appreciation of just how much bounce they get! We wandered back through town stopping for lunch at the Riverside café. Back at camp we admired Jez’s pic’s and waited the return of the adrenalin day crew. We were treated with a show from the Tin Can kids, a group of local boys who were discovered by a former barman of Shoestrings after it chased down the music to these group of boys making their own music and dance with pots, pans , drums and truck springs. They now regularly do shows at Shoestrings which pays for their education and an ice cream after the show.
After a tear jerking performance, heaps of pics we waved goodbye to the little stars. We savored our last evening with our mates sad to say goodbye so soon but confident we’d be seeing them again before long.
Monday
The start of the second part of our trip we packed up our gear and said the last of our farewells as we boarded our new truck bound for Bulawayo. With plenty of space on the truck with just six of us we spread out making the trip seem relatively short. With a roadside lunch stop and a shopping stop for essential like biltong and dinner supplies. We arrived in Bulawayo around four. Tents set up we got a briefing on the plans for the next few days. We tucked into some BBQ chicken and salad for dinner and settled for a well needed early night.
