Train to Basel, Switzerland
Goofing around taking pics on the train =) We arrived into Interlaken around noon. This train ride was so beautiful! Our hotel was about a 10 minute walk away, not bad. We checked-in and headed out to explore. Interlaken is neat town, but seemed very touristy - and VERY pricey. We at in small café, had 2 cokes and split fish and chips and our bill was over $40. We expected it to be pricey! There was only one chocolate shop that was open and it too was pricey. Hoping Lucerne has more of a variety in chocolate shops! Chris found a castle in a town right before Interlaken called Speitz, so we decided to get back onto the train and head back there. It was only 10-15 minute train ride and since we bought a 5 Day Euro Pass, we can get on almost any public transportation (buses, boats, rails trains, etc) for free. We got to Speitz and walked the town. What a cool town for families!! They had skate boarding competition going on, and next to it miniature golf, sand volleyball, huge playground, a pool with a humongous slide that wove through the trees, all next to a gorgeous lake. I have never seen the water
so blue/green as it is here. It is the prettiest water I’ve ever seen. We walked up to the castle Schloss Castle, which was built in the 1100’s. Very cool castle, that over look the lake. There were a few weddings going on as well. We walked around the town, got some soft serve ice-cream and then to a café on the lake. The food was delicious! Chris had sausage and I had a tomato, basil artichoke pizza. The waiter we had spoke 6 languages and was from Portugal, very nice gentlemen. The weather here has been the warmest in all the cities we’ve been to so far. Mid 70’s?? We took a boat ride (free!!) back to Interlaken around 6PM. The views were amazing! Sat and talked to gentleman who was from the Interlaken area, but lives in Lake Geneva, Switzerland and has a home in Colorado. We assumed tourism was the main industry in the Bern area, but he said technology and medical equipment is huge here. On the walk back to our hotel, there were 20-piece marching bands (we saw at least two at two different hotels) playing on the streets, which was cool to watch. We
got back to the hotel, hit the sauna (no hot tub ), showered and took an ambien and hit the sack!
Having a great time! Really miss you Taylor and Lexi!

Wow, what a blast from the past. I think I was two years older than you when Phelecia and I went. Are they still drinking water from the fountains around town? And Castle Speitz was on of my favorites. Keep having fun. See you soon and thanks for sharing.
