We woke up with just enough time for breakfast coffee and a Bagel. When in NY!

We had booked a tour for today to try and get our bearings quickly, It is called Real New York Tours and was just that. Tell them what you want to see or don't and they just change it up to suit. It is all walking and subway baised and suited us perfectly.

We went downstairs and met our guide for the day Max.
He took us all over the city. We left the apartment at 11am and got back in the door at 6pm!
The weather was great, we walked past the UN and it’s sculptures, including this life sized elephant sculpture donated by an African country. It has been moved to a discreet corner and has shrubs and greenery covering 2/3’s of it - due to complaints from the public about it’s very large male anatomy!
We walked along 5th Avenue to Central Park. We toured Central Park, past the lake and the Boathouse and exited at Strawberry Fields. We saw the Dakota apartment building where John Lennon lived and was gunned down in the court yard, from there we boarded the subway to head downtown.
We strolled around Grenwich Village - definately the place to live if you wanted to move to Manhattan, gorgeous homes on tree lined streets, cute little restaurants & shops on the corners. A really nice relaxing place to be. We then walked around Soho on the way to Little Italy and Chinatown. Some great shops in Soho, not just the goods for sale but the pressed tin ceilings and huge spaces inside these old one time factorys. Really interesting history too.
We continued our walking tour and covered too much to write about. Later in the day we caught the subway to Brooklyn (did you know singer Jay Z named himself after the subway line to his home!) So we caught the J line to Z? Anyway we were amazed by the constanty changing areas. We strolled through deserted streets of the Jewish area Williamsberg on Sabath. We met a lady relaxing in her front garden, she commented on the three of us and we stopped to chat. She was from Hungry and was the sole survivor of her family, the only one to make it out of Auchwitsz. Her thumbs were at reverse right angles from her career in a sewing factory. She told us she married when she arrived in America and has a son & a daughter.
Then as we Jewish part each few blocks changed into an area habited by a different culture and nationality. The Dominican sector, the Cuban sector and then the Puerto Rican all in just a few blocks. The different people, different fashions, different music and habits was very very interesting and to see such big changes just crossing from one street to the next was quite amazing.
We left our guide at the subway station and navigagted our way back to the apartment from Brooklyn.

After a rest and a freshen up, we referred to the brief list of places to go given to us by Andrea (apartment owner) and decided we would try The Palm Too on 2nd Ave.
Well OMG - we had the most amazing meal. Matt & I had a steak - honestly the most perfect steak we have ever eaten. Even though we could not face the desert tray, the lady from the next table told us The palm has the best chocolate cake in NY. We thought we would take a slice away, to share later. A slice! It was big enough to serve 6 people. Honestly.
