I already knew Slovenia was going to be different when we were waiting for our connecting flight in Vienna. All 30 of us were taken on a bus to a lear jet parking lot. The bus stopped in front of our little white plane and as we walked up the stairs into this lear jet - I felt like princes Diana ( may she rest in peace ) boarding her private plane to some private destination. I pondered as I was buckling up in my grey leather seat that if this plane crashes at least I'm going in style.
One thing for sure : NOT ALOT OF PEOPLE fly to Slovenia. fast forward A half an hour later - we were exiting an airport so small it took about 5 minutes from plane to train.
So what would you expect to find on a Monday morning in the capital city. I would assume: honking cars, people walking in suits, noise, hustle and bustle ... well At 8:00 in the morning we were out walking the streets of Ljubljana to find no one! We just assumed that they start there day at 9. wrong! Either the whole city is on
Beautiful Buildings
notice the building is painted - and no one is on the street. vacation or the population is holding at a 100. This town is the most quietest , quaint and pristine city I've ever seen. We walked in the morning, we walked the city in the afternoon and we went out at night - no one is around! i
The buildings and streets feel like NYC but the energy level is of an ongoing siesta in Mexico. Just what Jeff and I needed. I've only had two work related panic attacks.
I had heard that there was one vegan restaurant in all of Ljubljana. Every tourist book says it's amazing, the "happy cow" web site for vegetarian restaurants gave it a great review so, I decided that we had to go! "Jeff we can walk it - the city is so small - its a no brainer" well we finally reached our destination an hour later and found ourselves sitting on the steps 35 Vodnikova road (a suburb of the city) to be told by an older gentleman that the restaurant closed down a month ago but we can stay at his place to sleep. Well thats what we think he said. After a good laugh and a long groan -
city square
notice no people ! we jumped on a bus to be told - in sign language- that we needed to have a prepaid ticket .. but luckily the bus driver was nice and let us on anyway.
we finished the day at a Jazz bar- boy did i feel like playing my sax.. and a great salami sandwich in our room.
As most of you know we usually get our haircuts in the new city but unfortunately or maybe luckily we had our hair cuts a few weeks ago. so this trip I' m on a hunt for a pedicure and manicure. I'll let you know what we can find.
Tomorrow were off to Croatia.
