Kutna Hora
Schwarzenberg coat of arms Day 5 - Prague to Vienna 08.07.10
Well another travel day, but started out well with a good breakfast and a stop at the supermarket on our way out of the city. Perhaps a few of the guys were a little under the weather due to a slight overconsumption of alcohol last night but I think that's understandable given the circumstances. Needless to say that Spain won the match - we should have known, after all the Irish octopus did pick Spain to win and he hasn't been wrong yet. I think someone needs to eat him now.
The first stop of the day was at Kutna Hora. I have been before but I love the 'Kostnice Ossuary' and so went in again with everyone else.
Its a little chapel with thousands of human bones stored in it (beteen 40 000 and 70 000 skeletons, I believe), some of which have been arranged in a rather macabre form of art.
There is a coat-of-arms of the Schwarzenberg family (the family that ordered the bones to be ordered in the chapel and not just stored randomly), as well as an amazing chandelier which contains at least one of every bone in the human body.
I have an appreciation for unusual art forms...
The day did start to get a bit longer after that. The border crossing was no problem but we had a bit of trouble sorting out the road taxes. Oh well - these things happen. It turned into a 10 hour day instead of an 8 hour drive but we did make it into beautiful Vienna in the end. One of my favourite cities in Europe - very classically pretty and rather peaceful.
The bus does not have air conditioning so everyone was rather hot by the time we arrived at the hostel. On the plus side the hostel is similar in quality to last night in Prague and this was a very good thing.
The guys did manage to propr the back door open for the drive though so we did get some ventilation!
Having visited Vienna before, and being in need of some clean clothes, I elected to spend my evening at the hostel doing my laundry rather than walking in to town for dinner.
We will just have to see what tomorrow brings...
Tonight however there is time for a drink before bed. Or possibly two. Maybe three. Well the bar closes at 0200, so we will definitely be done by then! Might as well make the most of it, no drinking in Iran, after all.
Day 6 - Vienna
Another restful day as I wandered beautiul Vienna. Feeling no urgent need to see anything in particular, I just wandered around and enjoyed being' here. Its like being on holiday and I definitely made the most of it.
It is however rather hot. And since I, being the one who decided to do the July 4th tour, have no one to blame but myself, I really do think I warrant a straight jacket when I get back to Oz. Thank goodness for a nice soft breeze - long may it last...
Who knows, I may even score a tan for a change, instead of simply alternating between red and white as I usually do!
Tonight the plan was to meet at the Opera house to have dinner in town. I think Jana and I might end up eating somewhere around the hostel though. Snitchel it is for me! Yum.
I find that my budget is doing rather well in Europe. Helps that Im not paying for too much in the way of sightseeing or souvenirs I guess. Wait til I get to Eastern Turkey...
UPDATE
Well we didnt end up going out for dinner, instead all meeting up at the hostel. Not too much on the menue but even my Marguarita piyya ended up having too much pepper on it and I subsequently lost my voice...
Which of course Ali in particular found hilarious! Not sure how I will manage in places like india if I can' eat spices - guess I will be living on bread...
LJ sent a few of the guys off to find some street markets and live music in 'walking distance', which they apparently never found. Oh well, guess they got to see a different side of the city! For an hour and a half...
Glad I didn't go.

Hi AJ, Sounds like everything is going well. Hope everyone is settling into the group nicely. We've had a lot of rain the last couple of days which is great 71mm so far since Thursday. Not so cold at night, days cooler though. xoxooxoxox
