Heidelberg to Prague
A picnic lunch in Germany Day 3 Heidelberg to Prague
And another travel day. Actually, I don't have much to say about it. We are all still settling in to the routine of travelling and learning a bit about each other, all the while trying to keep everyone from discovering our deep dark secrets and the skeleton's in our closets, figurative or literal...
Of course it only took one night to discover who snored (a couple), who smoked (just 1!), and who woke up inhumanly cheerful in the mornings (ooops, guilty as charged...).
The crossing into the Czech Republic was a bit anticlimactic, though I think the trip leader was the only one who thought it might be problematic. We drove through and arrived in Prague in the early evening. Plenty of time to relax in our hostel/hotel and have a few drinks. The accommodation here is beautiful, four bed rooms, and we are taking advantage of not having bunks for a change! The toilet and shower are also both in the room and we have huge windows that actually open all the way if we want!
And yes, it might sound strange to those who haven’t done much in the way of budget

A few drinks before dinner travel, but
these are the things we get excited about!!
With no departure time in the morning, it was the day for a few drinks, and a good way to get to know each other. At this point nicknames have started to stick, and pretty soon people will be spilling more personal information. It’s always amazing how quickly people become ‘friends’ when they are forced to live in each other’s pockets 24/7. We are, however, all wary of the fact that we will be together for three months and are really easing ourselves into the group slowly.
So after dinner we all had a drink to celebrate Lisa's birthday. I like that no-one thought it at all odd that we were drinking to my sister's birthday, when no one else knows her. Any excuse for a drink it seems! Happy Birthday Lese.
Day 4 Prague
Today was our full day in Prague. Having been here before, I was quite happy to relax for the day. Three of us girls were sharing the room and had all agreed it would be a great chance to sleep in. However, come 0700 this morning and we were all
wide awake! So much for that. To think that we have to
learn how to sleep in!!
So after a very lazy breakfast, I headed in to the city with Jana for a free walking tour of Prague, while quite a few of the group made the most of having a swimming pool at the hotel/hostel.
The sun couldn't quite decide if it wanted to come out today, which was nice for me as I'm not fond of the heat (which I possibly may have mentioned before). Getting sunburnt on day 4 of 92 is definitely not part of the plan. Of course, I did forget my hat, which means I was one of those tourists who walk around, say Edinburgh, with maps draped over their heads keeping the rain/sun off that you look at and think "what an idiot - obviously a
tourist"
So yep, now I’m one of them again!
Tonight the world cup semi-final is on. Of course, we have one German girl and one Spanish Guy on our trip so we are all getting dressed up for the game and will be watching it from the bar. Half the group with Germany
and half with Spain. Fortunately none of us are football crazy so it won’t be tooooo competitive. I’m on the Germany team and will be wearing black. I know the colours are Black, red and gold but since I don’t have and red or gold, it leaves black. Hmm, perhaps I will head down to the market down the street before dinner tonight.
