In mumbai now, done and dusted with goa, where lethargy and inertia is de rigueur. The monsoon put a dampener on things, literally, as the seasonal rains deluged us on end. The torrential rainfalls put paid to the beach-bum plans, so we couldn’t really soak up the sun and sand as much as we’d fancy. Still! Goa was wicked. It necessitates that you be really deliberate and insouciant about things. The kind of place where you clock in some solid reading time, indulge in beer o’clock every afternoon, and channel leonardo d’caprio like in ‘the beach’. Yes you get the shabby beach shacks, the seedy grass-peddler, the phuket/vang vieng vibe, but well it was good while it lasted.

Haha on the slated departure for mumbai we were thrown a wicked curve-ball we never quite envisaged. On reaching the train station we were told the train’d left! Schedules had changed owing to the monsoon. Like a miasma we were beset with dread and anguish. Haha wretched. but anws we did the sob story thing (abt having to catch a flight to sg) with the station manager who managed to get us on the nxt train. We had company, it wasn’t just us both that received the short end of the stick. Haha we met a motley crue of some 12 other indian dudes, very much still imbibed in Goan revelry, who really cldn’t be arsed to break a sweat or fret haha. They were given 3 seats, not sleepers, for a mob of 12! Haha very much quotidian; nth too unorthodox for their palettes. That’s india 101 for dummies, really. Take everything with a huge dose of salt, with a (wry) smile, and jettison your first-world or Singapore barometer and lenses when confronting india. Instead, embrace the cadence and pulse that the intensity of travelling in India confers. from the pulsating rush and adrenalin that massive cities like Mumbai precipitates (and drains); to the pitstops and crevices like goa and kerala where the respite is more sublime, I guess its been a good 5 wks. And a better shot at india than my inception 2 yrs ago.

This whole post has seemed to adopt a very dour and drab inflection. I don’t sound too pumped about having just come from goa, do i? its not rocket science, just that B leaves for sgp tmr and that is very disconsolate news.
