You can't sleep there!!!
This is me trying to take a picture of this weird staute in New Plymouth when I was with Kiwi. I shouldn' have bothered as I somehow managed to delete them!!!! Well, I am still alive, just, but thats a long story! I know I havn't done a blog for ages but I have been a busy little bee, honest!
As you know from Trev's last blog, we split up for a while. After the fruit picking job we had setup fell through, I decided that I wanted to go back up to Auckland to find a job which, the last time we were there, there was loads of. So I headed down to Wellington with Mike, Dite and Jo, leaving Trev behind, chasing after the car with tears running down his face. Really, he was! Wellington was pretty cool and we hung around for a couple of days doing some touristy things until the other guys left for the South Island. I got the overnight bus to Auckland, which was interesting to say the least, I don't know where they find these characters from!
After arriving in Auckland and settling in, the job hunting started. I walked everywhere, handing in my CV to any bar/resturant/coffee shop in practically the whole of Auckland. I managed to find a bar job on the first day for Friday and Saturday nights so
Mini Adventures
Explored New Plymouth and Mount Taranaki in Kiwi's little red Mini. Very cool car but not so great when trying to fit my backpack in the boot! I was happy with that for the time being. I also learnt quite quickly to lie through my teeth if i was going to get anywhere. So all of a sudden, I'd worked in every industry known to man and I was staying in Auckland for at least 8 months. From this point over the next 2 days, I got offered about 10 jobs! I took a Mon to Fri in a juice bar called Boost. Their huge over here and in Oz (coming to a town near you soon, no doubt). The fact that I got free juices and smoothies everyday won me over. I also found a flat to live in. I'd met a lad called Owen in the hostel I was staying at and he found a flat and they needed a girl to move in. It was right in the city centre near the Sky tower so perfect for work and it was great having a bit of privicy which you do not get in hostels! Also had a pool, gym and steam room so i was defiantely sold. The flat was very muti-cultural, Irish, Brazilian, Korean and English, what a mix! Rafiel the Brazilian was
Bye Bye Trev :-(
This is the last pic of Trev before I abandoned him, can you see the tears forming already! a complete weirdo but Hoyoung, the Korean girl was just lovely and we got on like a house on fire. She loved the fact I was there too as I helped her English no end (yes mum, I did say my "T"s properley) and she also loved me teaching her to tell Owen to "Jog On", shut him up everytime!
As I had a few days before I had to start work, I decided that I'd go down to New Plymouth to see Raewyn (Kiwi to me and most people back home) and Baz, old friends of my parents. It was so good seeing her and, the fact that I havn't seen her for 4 years and it was about 12 years before that, I felt like I'd only seen her the week before. I was made to feel completlely at home. Huge double bed, roast lamb, homebaked blueberry muffins (she knows how to win my heart). Kiwi even phoned my mum to ask how she makes spag bol coz that my favourite meal! We spend time just chatting away and getting to know the girls, Emma and Tracy. Their such great girls and typical Cokers, they both looked
Boats Galore!
This is the start of the Volvo round the world yacht race that set off from wellington like the Coker girls at home, really strange, I though I was back in Dymchurch! We drove round Mount Taranaki which was very beautiful but surrounded by clouds most the time but I did get to see the top of it once! I was gutted to leave, it was just like home but I had to get back to Auckland to start work, dam it!
The next couple of weeks consisted of working in Boost with some really great guys, Irene, Emmz and Villi but the boss, Nick was a complete tossbag, talk about chip on your shoulder. I worked in a Champange Cocktail bar called Honey on Friday and Saturdays which was wicked. Working with Jared, Rob and Dan was a complete laugh and actually got to meet some locals. Jared has also showed me how to make some "fabulous" cocktails and shots so get ready for it when I get home girls!! I also worked at a couple of NZ v West Indies cricket matches in the corperate boxes. Easy work and good money so I could live with the tie and waistcoat for a few hours! Also got to see Brian Lara bat which was pretty cool.
Life was getting a bit more noramlity to it and to be honest was just getting boring. So when Ben, who'd I'd met in Oz turned up with a car and then Jon I'd met in Thailand arrived as well and wanted to travel around, I had the perfect opportunitiy to up and go. With a little bit of arm twisting (but not much) I gave Boost a story about me having to go to Napier to see Trev as he'd had an accident. Only had to say this because the boss wouldn't have paid me because he's such an evil idiot! Seriously, he's the only Kiwi I've meet who I havn't liked, all the others are really cool! So Paddy's day was a real good laugh. I was free again and hanging around with 2 Irish guys (Owen and Enda) how could it not be anyway. But with Jon, Ben, Jackie (Bens travelling buddy round NZ) and Jamie (the guy we'd met on trhe Whitsundays) it was even better. It was a very messy night but the atmosphere of the place was electric. We went to Honey as well (cheap drinks for me!) so nice being in front of the bar instead of behind it! We ended up in an Irish bar at 4 o'clock in the morning where i bumped (literally) into Maura and Landy the American girls Trev and I had met in OZ. Good seeing them but its all very vauge (as it was 4am on Paddys day and we'd been out since 8pm!).
So, on the Sunday I packed up all my gear and headed out to meet Godfrey for the first time and what a car he is! Ben had met another girl to fill the car, Toria, so after packing our stuff up, we hit the road for a new set of adventures....................
