And so... the worlds love affair with Italy continues... what is it about Italy the draws people to it so...
Everyone who visits Italy comes here with the expectation that they will be swept off their feet...you more than likely will be...
Whether you are here for the architecture, the countryside, the seaside or the shopping... you will find it to be a very special country...
Italys rich and magnificent history surrounds you wherever you go... I have been in absolute awe at the incredible works of art the grand masters of the past have left behind for the rest of us to enjoy... Cathedrals, Basilicas, Museums, Galleries and even the corner tobacconist all housed in beautiful stunning, buildings...
We all know that the Italians and style go hand in hand... wow... they absolutely ooze the stuff... even the little bambino's could quite easily have just come out of a fashion shoot... was fabulous to just sit and people watch... I was mostly impressed by the older set... I
guess they have been practicing and learning for many years... I have never seen so many beautiful woman and handsome men in the one place... so well manicured from top to bottom... just gorgeous...
It really is an acquired art-form, this style business... anything and everything goes here and it all looks fantastic... the thing I love the most is that they are not afraid to play around with colour, patterns, designs, accessories...
Fashion is of course superb...how could it not be with alot of the worlds top designers coming from this country... the quality of the fabrics, the designs, the workmanship and finish on the garments is absolutely beautiful... they really are wearable works of art... Of course, just as important as a beautiful garment may be, it is equally important that the person wearing this work of art, wears it with panache, elegance and confidence... the Italians do a superb job of this...
Girls... the shopping is amazing... absolutely gorgeous... the lingerie, the shoes, the handbags... all of it... shopping is my favourite pastime so I was delirious with joy... 😊
The Isle of Capri... once a seemingly exclusive enclave to the rich and famous...
is very chic and nowadays very accessible to everyone... saw some wonderful old black and white photos of past notable visitors to the island... in their younger days... Cary Grant, Rita Hayworth, Faye Dunaway, Elizabeth Taylor, Audrey Hepburn and Jackie when she was an Onassis... to name just a few...
If you are coming to stay for a few days or weeks then remember to bring oodles of spending $$$... as there is some seriously beautiful boutiques...
Tuscany... just like you may have heard or read about... is an enchanting and beautiful region... it would be wonderful to lease a villa here and spend a few months in the countryside...
Pompeii... simply enthralling... heres what happened... the city dates back to 6-7 BC. In 62AD, it was hit by an earthquake where a great deal of damage to the city was done... reconstruction was still ongoing when 18 years later in 79AD, Vesuvias erupted and buried the whole city under ash and rock...
The city covers an area of 66 hectares of which 45 hectares have been excavated...
Rome is of course incredible... It is a city worthy of at least a good week of your time...
It must be a massive task for the residents of Rome to be caretakers of such a rich and abundant collection of magnificent works of architecture... everywhere you go...everywhere you look... I do feel though that it is a tad sad that alot of them are covered in centuries of dirt, grime, pollution and sometimes graffiti...
Full credit to the Romans though for getting on with their lives whilst their city is inundated with thousands of tourists every day of the year...
Venice... the jewel in the crown... an absolute must for anyone coming here... and probably the most colourful spot I visited...
The other wonderful thing I discovered here is that Italy is open to one and all if you want to come here and study for a bit... hundreds and hundreds of courses... I met an Indonesian girl who was studying Fashion in Milan for 3 years, American girls studying Italian for 3 months in Siena, another American that was spending 4 weeks taking an Italian cooking course in Bologna which is the foodie capital of the country and a British girl who has decided to make a career change, she has quit her job and
come to Italy to take a 2 week jewellery making course in Florence... How exciting for them all...
onto Switzerland now... Ciao x
