Yesterday, I met Catherine for lunch in between classes. She took me to a wonderful restaurant in the latin quarter, which she said is a favorite of students, particular med students and law students in later years who have started making some money. It is a traditional French bistro called Polidor.

We started with Escargot for me and some paté for Catherine. The escargot were cooked inside their shells, and Catherine was very amused watching me fight to get some of them out. The sauce they were in was absolutely amazing, as well. Catherine's paté was also quite delicious.

For a main course, I tried steak tartare. I had heard the name before, but I had never known what it was or tried it. Catherine told me it is raw ground beef with capers, and seasonings. She didn't think I would like it. I decided to order it anyway...I like my steaks and burgers rare, so why not go for not cooked at all? I LOVED it. the taste is so unlike anything else I have eaten. It was served with fries, which were nothing special. Catherine ate Andouillette, which is sausage made from not tripe exactly, but another part of pork intestine. It was also delicious! She says tripe has a very different flavor, but I am willing to try that as well, sometime. We also shared some pomme purée, which was fabulously light, fluffy and melted in your mouth.

For dessert we shared a baba au rhum, which is a small cake with a creamy rum sauce. If you like the taste of rum, it is a real treat!

The only thing missing was some wine, which we did not drink because it was the middle of the day, and I did not want to be dozing off in my classes later.

Oh, how I love French cuisine!

Raw meat
maybe you would like mettwurst http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mettwurst I think raw meat is yucky though :P I don't like raw ham either. never tried raw beef, at least I don't think so.
