On Monday 5th April, 2010, Christina, Alex, Sandra and I went to Poli Brides here in Daqing for a photo shoot. It was Alex's birthday as well so was a perfect day to dress up and feel glamorous. I arrived late as I was getting my hair extensions re-braided. The place was huge and very fancy. I walked inside, called Christina - who informed me that after paying at the counter one of the staff would collect me and take me up stairs - which all happened so smoothly. The girl who collected me was very sweet and spoke a very little amount of English. Once upstairs I noted that Sandra was getting her hair and make up done, Christina was dressed about ready to go in for hair and make up and Alex was just finishing getting dressed.
We were all allocated a staff member each who helped with lots of things, they primarily helped us choose clothes, jewellery, shoes etc. In combination with these girls there were also hair and make up people and then probably another 4 or 5 girls around to help out. On the various sets there were lighting people, a few assistants, a couple of
head ladies who assisted with a bit of translation and who were generally there to keep everything together, then there was a guy who helped choreograph us into positions for the photographer. The photographer was a short, quirky, super stylish guy who had a hilarious sense of humor.
We were all wearing our after 5pm clothes - dresses and heels. Our hair and make up was matched with our clothes and accessories. I was first up for single photos, they led me into a room which looked just like a hallway with pictures on the wall. I was very rigid and not nearly relaxed even though the staff tried their best I was way out of my comfort zone. Not long after this they took us all to a different set where they took some group photos. Taking us for group photos was a great move as we were all able to relax, let our hair down and enjoy the process. We then stopped by a grand white piano and got some single and 2 person group shots.
Next, we had wardrobe changes. We all looked awesome next to each other as we all had our own quirky
styles on. There were colours, patterns and textures everywhere!
They took us into a large room and invited us to do our own style of photos. This is where the afternoon turned into gold. We played with heaps of different ideas and had so much fun. The staff were also so open and keen to try out our ideas.
Then we had singles, this is where the magic happened. All of the staff worked with the various objects we had picked out from around the costume area and studio, as well as adding different objects they thought were interesting into the scene.
There were some classic 1950's pin up sailor girl pictures, some raunchy cosmopoliton cover pictures, some chic fashion shots and plenty of images that screamed 'I am woman, I am strong'.
Anyway, the pictures will speak for themselves!
The girls picked up the photos Monday the 10th May and they're finally attached! Check 'em out!
