A couple days ago over the long Easter weekend, I walked up to the Cathedral in Rosario to see the place before it became packed with people for the Easter day services. I had seen the cathedral before and loved the building, though I had never been inside before. So I took the opportunity to step inside while they had their doors open for Easter. Once inside, I was even more impressed by the building. There's stained glass on virtually every wall somewhere or another and the statues were made and placed so wonderfully that I had forgotten that I was in Argentina and was taken back to my days of visiting the Cathedrals in England. Now that I'm able to compare the Cathedral here in Argentina with those in Britain, I can say that while Britain's are able to amaze simply because of the shear size, the one in Rosario simply bedazzled the mind with how much they were able to put into one place. While it wasn't going for size, it definitely ranked very high in quality.
Having been there on Saturday to take pictures of it while it was empty, I felt obligated to go back on Easter Sunday to see what it was like on a busy day. Once again, it didn't disappoint. Maybe a thousand people crowded into the building to receive mass and blessings from the priest. I was looked at quite strangely when I entered without kneeling and crossing myself, and when asked all I could say was, "Lo siento, soy protestante" (Sorry, I'm a protestant). Which earned my extra glances of, "Why are you here then". Luckily, I only caught the tail end of the service and left before I was quizzed more on the matter.
The service was done in what I'm pretty sure was Spanish. Though I'm sure there was some Latin thrown in there somewhere that I simply couldn't distinguish from the Spanish. Though I was able to understand one of the hymns that was being sung which repeated "vive" (he lives) at least 20 times or so. Overall the experience was a good one and I'm glad I went, though I'm pretty sure that I won't be attending another service there for some time, maybe when the family comes down to pick me up in June.

"I can say that while Britain's are able to amaze simply because of the shear size, the one in Rosario simply bedazzled the mind with how much they were able to put into one place." Erik, I love how you described this! That is exactly how I felt when we visited churches in Italy. And you know Dad, we went into almost EVERY one!
