Victoria Falls Spray
View from our sunset cruise Africa entry number 2! After exploring and experiencing Johannesburg, we took a flight to Livingstone, Zambia for a few days before the start of our safari. We stayed at Jollyboys hostel in the center of the city and we arrived amidst some rain but it soon cleared up perfectly for our sunset cruise on the Zambezi river for our friend Brad's birthday. We took the luxury booze cruise on the Lady Livingstone and it was all you could drink - sweet!! All that with stunning views for $50. Money well-spent! We had a great time and the views were breathtaking. We immediately were able to see the spray from the falls and it's one of those places that you have to go to to believe it. I knew the skies in Africa were amazing but the skies throughout my trip in Africa were spectacular that they looked fake! I hope that my photos are able to give you a good idea of what we saw before our eyes.
Aside from drinking on this cruise, it was our first time seeing the animals in the wild. Elephants, hippos, baboons and I know I'm missing something else, but it was pretty cool
Elephant #1
Do you see him? seeing them in their natural element. This was only a glimmer of what we ended up experiencing in Botswana.
The next day we headed into Victoria Falls and it was the beginning of the true wild animal encounters... baboons!! They are everywhere there and certainly not afraid of people. Lisa Krupp can attest to a big baboon moving in to take her backpack that she placed on the ground for a few seconds. Once taken back by her, the baboon gave her some nasty looks as if saying, "Oh no you didn't! Watch out lady!" ha! Lesson learned, don't mess with the baboons.
Victoria Falls is situated between the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe. There were several hikes that we took thru the area and needless to say not only were they visually stunning, we came out drenched. I wasn't able to take many shots because I had to keep my camera in the bag underneath my poncho. Camera is all good but we were soaked through, it felt good though since it was so warm. This trail in particular took you across a bridge and we were simply soaked because of the spray from the falls. Believe
me, we weren't walking underneath the falls but it certainly felt like it. It was if you were caught in the heaviest downpour and it was non-stop. It was so much fun and totally worth getting drenched for. It's hard to believe that our friends Josh and Danielle came during the dry season and said there was just a trickle when they had come here before. Well they definitely experienced the extreme this time around. I'll be sure to tag myself in the photos that my friend Lisa took, as she was smart and brought a waterproof case for her camera.
We had to soak up our time here to relax before we headed into the African bush and ruffed it for 6 nights of camping. It was the beginning of our insect-repellent/deet and sunscreen application, but we were still able to wash it off. Up next, my 7-layer dip on the human skin. 😊
Aloha!!
