Edit Blog Post

Hi everyone,
Sorry we haven´t blogged in a couple of days, the net was expensive in Alicante. We´re in an internet cafe, so we can write a blog now but will have to add photos later. Edit, just added 10 photos 😊

Yesterday we took the coastal route from Valencia to Alicante. It was a very interesting drive and Richie is now very much just like another spanish driver! We passed through a number of towns (some industiral and more run down with working girls along the road), others which were much more developed. We stopped for lunch in Javea which is a lovely coastal holiday town. We came across our first groups of pommy holidayers. their accents really stand our as do ours we suppose! We are enjoying using our spanish where we can though! It was 31deg on the beach however the water is still freezing. we had a lovely lunch and drove up to the mansions on the hill (picking out the ones we would like to live in one day) and took in the stunning view. From the lookout we believe we managed to see a glimpse of Ibiza, but we could be mistaken.

continued on driving down the coast until we reached Altea where we had another break and then did the final leg to Alicante. It really is a stunning coastline, and we are really glad that we took the scenic route, and avoided the tolls in the process 😊.

Moving on to Alicante, wow, what a gorgeous little city. After checking in we decided to go for a stroll and found masses of people lining the streets. Clearly this wasn´t for our arrival! We soon discovered it was for the first of many Easter parades we would come across. It was fascinating although we didn´t really understand the significance of all the people in the parade.

The following day (yesterday) we had a full day exploring Alicante. The city is just as the guide book described with Palm lined boulevards, beautiful beaches, the imposing Castillo de Santa Barbara and of course the crazy night life! We wandered around the port and the beach area and then trekked up the walls of the Castle. The 360 degree views from the top were well worth the hike! On the way down we discovered a lift, which would have saved an hours

hike on the way up. We enjoyed some sangria down at the beach and an interesting dinner on the docks of the port at a seafood festival. We were not quite sure what one of the things were, but we continued eating our favourites for the moment, sepia and calamares a la plancha (grilled cuttle fish and calarmari). It was a great day and our legs are tired!

This morning we left Alicante, and at the moment we´re in Murcia, where by the looks of things they are about to have another big Easter parade. We´ve been to see the cathedral which took 4 centuries to build, and is very impressive, as all cathedrals are in Spain... We´re off to have a coffee and then head onto Granada where we are meeting Kate, Keith & Millie tonight. We will add photos of the last couple of days when we can.

Adios amigos.
