2 days in Madrid.

We started the day with a DECLICOUS breakfast of torrijas which is a spanish type of sweet french tosat which is only served around easter time. yum! After brekky we caught the metro down to La Latina and explored the famous El Rastro markets.

After the markets we met with Kate, Keith and Millie and had a look in the city centre where there were lots of crazy buskers and a big protest against bull fighting as it's the start of the season. We had a lovely picnic lunch in Parque del Buen Retiro. We saw a very cute squirrel! We planned to go to the Meseo del Prado however we were faced with a very lengthy queue because entry is free on Sundays. We decided to skip and went for a walk to see an impressive 4 storey high green wall (hanging garden - jardin colgante). We were planning on seeing Real Madrid vs Alletico Madrid play at Santiago Bernabeu stadium but opted to go and see the stadium and then watch it in Kate & Keith's local bar over drinks and tapas. great atmosphere!

We are very impressed with the metro system as very easy to navigate and it goes right throughout the city. Cheap too!

Day 2 of exploring Madrid found us at the Plaza de Toros las Ventas (Madrid's famous bullring). We went on an excellent tour here and learnt about the history and art form of bull fighting. There is a lot more to it than we initially thought however Lysh has opted not to go to a bullfight due to it's cruelty. Richie may see a fight in Seville later on in our travels. We then explored old Mardid including the Plaza de Mayor, Mercado de San Miguel, Plaza de la Villa, Cathedral de la Almundena, Palacio Real, Plaza de Oriente and Plaza de Espana. Lots of walking but it was well worth it to see the beautiful buildings and lovely plazas. We're finishing up our last night in Madrid with raciones (plates of tapas) and a few drinks (which are very cheap here)!.

We are getting by with our very limited spanish and are very proud of ourselves when we're understood! so far so good!

Tomorrow we grab a car and start our solo adventure. Ciao for now!
