On the road ..and finally in Texas !
Everything went good bettween home and Junction. With one exception, pouring rain and thunderstorm/lightning all the way into Dallas/Fort Worth on SAT am (the 18th March. Anyhow Rick got thru that and made it to Golfsmith. The rain continued til we stopped in Stephenville around 4 pm. And there was morerain the next day too. Of course, the Texans were glad to see it , as the drought has gone on for sometime here; enough that the wild flowers in "hill country" will be somewhat scant this year, the San Antonio paper reported today.
Junction , where our KOA is, is 40 minutes west of Kerrville, where we are now. Junction is a lot more "desert looking " than Kerrville.
Kerrville and San antonio are part of the hill country are , where everything is somewhat green now ; and will improve as spring unfolds.
We have just bought a microwave at Walmart (where else!). Rick thinks he can enjoy TV dinners , as something he can eat; and I'll do my chicken or fish in it, to mix in a salad. Next we'll go over to the "Cowboy Art Museum" for an hour , then back to Junction.
This week the daytime temps are around 68F; nights are 47F ; the heater in our cabin is doing enough to keep us warm; in fact , downright hot if it isnt turned off for part of the nite. Looked out at a clear sky last nite; and Orion was still there!
At the border, last wed, we hit the customs officer who was doing careful checking. she has lots of questions and had us pop our truck, where she opened the cooler up. Nope no fruit, no veggies, no beer! After that she waved us on! The illegal stuff, which I didn't know til she handed us the info sheet , was the nuts and seeds! They were in my lunch kit , at my feet. And here I thought I was being so good this year not sneaking any clememtines across!
We stayed in Houghton, Lake Michigan the first nite; at a Supper 8. They have a great indoor pool there. And the pool walls are decorated lots with sports paraphenalia. That was 55.00 .Then Lancing , where Rick was headed, was 2 hours the next day. At Elderly Music we saw some gorgeous instruments. They open at 11 am so that was why we stopped where we did the day before.
He especially liked 2 of the Eastman guitars , at around $2600.00.
He got a music book to use with his recently purchased dulcimer. And a few other small items.
Got just into Illinois that day, where it was nice to have a high of 49 F . The next nite we were close to Texas, staying in Oklahoma.
Rick played his first golf game in Junction on Mon. (yesterday) It is a 9 hole along the LLano River. I think there were 3 or 4 others playing that day. The couse works on the honour system Mon to Fri and there is a box where you deposit your money . It was $13.00.
He said he hit a 285 drive! We saw deer crossing the road there; and lots of ranch animals (horses, goats mainly); and one critter crossed the road , and we have no idea what it was (2 feet long , low to the ground, tail is 10 inches, runs fast, 4 legs , brown).
There is a rooster singing away by 5:15 am at our campground.
We've broused in the Junction western stores and grocery shopped there.
Now it's time to tour the Art Museum and then return to the campgound and slip into some shorts!
