We were out the door by 6:50am at the Montville Holiday Apartments headed to the Town Hall Australia Day breakfast. Montville is such a cute little town with historical buildings and was celebrating the National Holiday with a Town Hall breakfast. When we arrived the food smelled so good and it was nice to be a part of such a neat celebration.

We went through the food line that had bread, sausage links, bacon, fried eggs, tomatoes, fruit and tea. The town hall had tables and chairs set up inside and everyone was so friendly that sat at our table. Everyone wanted to know where we were from since we don’t have the typical Australian accent.

Around 7:45am we headed to the Australia Zoo that opens at 9am and was about a 20 minute drive down the mountain to the small town of Beerwah. We arrived by 8:15am, were greeted with free breakfast cake and tea. The zoo was also letting anyone in early that day. The information center advised us the day before to get there early and pre pay for your tickets since the lines can be over an hour long at times to enter the VERY popular Crocodile Hunter Zoo.

The zoo is unlike any other we had ever been to since some of the enclosures have the animals free range while you are in the exhibit. We were there until around 2pm. See all the pictures below.

Back on the road to Sydney as we had made the trip north over many nights. We stopped at a rest stop for lunch then back on the road. Mom and Dad wanted to take a different road back to Sydney so we didn’t backtrack what we already saw. We all looked at the map for another route and picked the inland route along the Great Divide Range in Eastern Australia. Then we chose a town that looked like a good distance in between where we were in Beerwah, an hour north of Brisbane, to Sydney. Glen Innes was the lucky town as it was a good distance between the two cities.

We saw LOTS of different terrain, farms and small towns along the way with the road signs warning us of Kangaroos and Koalas every once in awhile. During this section of the trip we saw more cows and sheep along the way. No pigs were seen during our stay in Australia.

Once arriving in Glen Innes we stopped at 4 different hotels/motels until we found a good stay at the right price, Rest Point Motor Inn. It was more like a suite that had a mini kitchen area, living area with pull out sofa and a bedroom area with a queen sized bed for Mom and Dad. The bathroom was huge with a shower and separate jet tub.
