socks
See even in the pictures, there is an odd number!! I now have unreputable proof...dryers do eat socks.
The other night or early morning for those that know me well, I thought I needed to wash my new socks. They were in a bag with 10 pair so that makes 20 socks, doesn't it? Well, when I brought the socks up to pack, there were only 17!! Where did the other 3 go?? I didn't even go and look again because I always believed the dryer ate socks, now I know for sure.
And why did I count?? When you are one of 11 people, all the clean socks had to be in pairs. So one of the tasks on the family to-do list, besides picking them up, washing them in a wringer washer, drying them on the clothes line, was to make sure the socks were paired up and put in the appropriate place. We all have big feet so it didn't really matter whose drawer they went to, unless you were the youngest.
These days, my oldest son Jacob and his GF Barb love it when I come to visit. There is usually a 68 litre Rubbermaid tote (that is 15 Imperial gallons, the type we

No I did not pack everything on the floor into my suitcase. have in Canada or 18 US gallons for my American friends) filled with unmatched socks. And Barb no longer has to look at me longingly and say, "If you have time..." because she and Jacob know that I will automatically do this. It is imprinted in my brain...socks belong in pairs and you always hold on to the extra one in the event the dryer has indigestion as evidenced by the smoke rising from it and spews an extra one out. As I write this and share it with Jannette, she tells me she has the same gene, that at her daughter Becky's house, she does the same for Becky's 3 kids.
I know you are so interested in my sock stories, I just have to add one more detail: I know where Jacob is when there are socks in the middle of the living room. He always leaves his socks in the middle of the living room when he visits back in the Sault. I get this warm, fuzzy feeling when I see the socks because it reminds me he is "home" even for just a brief period. And sometimes, I will leave the socks there for a

Front Row: Jannette, Liz and Carole
Back Row: Annette, Mary and Sue
The last time we were together...just kidding!! few days (invariably he always leaves them behind when he goes home) to remind me he has been under my roof. Chiris, my younger son, always decides that his hair needs to be cut when he is home. He uses one of those buzzer things to do it...so there is always his hair in the bathroom when he has been home. Too bad it is not as easy to pick up hair as it is socks.
Now back to the blog:
I am one of 9 children, Carole, Jim (the pre-war babies), Joe (sadly deceased since 1997), Jannette, John, myself, Mary, Liz and my mother's change of life sibling, Annette, who arose from the loins of Winnie and Stu, (who are deceased or I wouldn't dare refer to ourselves in this way).
There is 24 years difference between my sister Carole, who was born in July 1940, exactly 9 months and 2 weeks after Winnie and Stu tied the knot, and our little sister Annette. Actually, Carole's first born arrived 3 weeks before Annette. Instead of Deo Gratias that appears in most birth announcements of a new Catholic baby, my Dad had "Multi Costa" added. Annette was
Annette wants to make a deal!!
Early in the planning, Annette said she and Mary wanted to trade 4 sisters for Sue Blatz (the "+1") and 2 Hawaiian Dancers. This was a pic from a previous cruise they went on. born the evening before the Ontario Health Insurance Plan came to be, so there was a cost associated with her birth. But I think the kind sisters at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hamilton took pity on this poor father whose claim to fame was "No hair. No teeth. No money. Just kids!!"
Can you see the logistics of planning a cruise in a group of very opinionated, independent women when there is more than a few generation gaps?? It was interesting. But as I visit with Jannette and Dave tonight on the eve of my new adventure, I know we are going to have fun. Wine helps. No whining allowed!!
If anyone knows where my BLister Mary Gail is, please tell her to check in with me...I will have my US cell turned on tomorrow and she has the number. I just want to make sure she landed in Brighton safe and sound.

Socks
Hi Sue! Your blog made me laugh! Coming from a huge family myself(I'm #13 of 15), I can relate with the sock issue. Socks everywhere! I still keep odd socks because I know their mate will show up sooner or later or anothers mate will disappear and the others will hook up eventually. Its the circle of socks! I know all large families can relate with this! Have fun with your sisters! I don't know if Gail is in town yet. She should be. I will give her your message when I talk to her. Looking forward to following your blog. Be safe!
