Entering Mozambique..on route for Tofo

Mozambique - wohoo!

On the 15th November 2009 we entered through the Giriyondo border post into the Limpopo park. The boirder went fine and we got our visas, phew!
The road was meant to be ok for a 2 wheel drive...hmmm. Bless Janis, she fought the whole way through and she managed the park ok. We drove crazy roads for a long time to make it to a camp by the Massingir dam. It was stunning. Complete peace. No one else there but one car. It was in the middle of the park, no fences so that wa sa bit creepy but considering since enbtering the Mozambiquan side of the partk we hadnt even seen as much as a bird..we figured it was safe!

We had a lovely braai with burnt sweet potatoes and some good red wine. We danced a little to keep ourselves occupied. It was good times!
We set off early in thew morning and made it out successfully. We got to Chokwe.
There we discovered they dont to leaded fuel in Mozambique..oops!
Then the car broke down...ooops.
We managed to get towed to Xai-Xai. It felt a bit hairy a times but it was ok. We found a hotel and stayed there for a few nights whilst janis got fixed up. We found an amazing Indian restaurant that made the whole stay much more enjoyable, their chili sauce rocked!
We found out that apparently old cars can take unleaded fuel as well...duh!
So all good and we were ready to leave for Tofo, Inhambane!

We set off early in the morning after a guy had cleaned the car for one hour for 1 euro!
One and a half hours later we went into a huge pothole and nearly drove off the road. When we went out we discovered that the wheel had come off...oh dear!
We were lucky that a local guy called Charlie let us hang out under the trees on his land whislt waiting...for 7 hours. Me and Suus knitted and Jim played with the local kids. They fed us mangoes and coconuts, good stuff!

When the sun was setting and we were a tad stressed out a guy called Colin arrived and macgyvered the whole thing and went in convoy with us all the way to Tofo - how amazing!

so at midnight, finally there - what a journey, haha - all part of the adventure..xx

Is it as bad as it looks
I am travelling with a group of 12 men and ladies to do some charity work in the city. This was one of the hotels that was reccommended to us. We will be staying for 2 weeks. Do the rooms have their own toilets? They look pretty bare. The other hotel was The Complexo Turistico Halley on the beach outside of town. Any suggestion would be great!!!! Any recommendations of sites to visit?

Hello, sorry for the late reply. Well it isn t great but fairly ok for being Africa I suppose. Dont know the other hotel. Breakfast was ok here and the rooms clean but bare, no toilets in the room, just 2 beds and a tv. Sorry, not to be so helpful, but eitehr way - you will love it! Frida
