Fortunately for me, last week I was too busy to plan any weekend trips, so I got "stuck" with the prearranged activities. Boy was I lucky. I won't bore you with the record-breaking snowfall in Beijing and other parts that had people stranded beyond their deadlines for getting back. First, we had a home visit with a simply delightful family--one of my student's--on Saturday evening after touring her university campus. Then, I rode a bike around the City Wall of Xi'an in that thick, dry, gray air. Those at home will have a hard time conceiving of this inescapable smog "thingy" (as Mia would say). I will wear my mask, which one of my super students gave to me, when I am out like that again. I also got to see the (Beijing) Peking Opera. The wonderful weekend was checkered with lots of Skype chats with my family. I will now attempt to drop in some photos. I do not have much time, so if it doesn't work, I will try again tomorrow. Good night.

The "Normal" Universities in China are for Educators. They hosted the Peking Opera which I attended. This library is home to the Women's Cultural Museum (see later blog).

Out and About
Just checking-in with Girl On Foot. Looks like girl-on-foot has upgraded to girl on wheels. What an exciting place to be! You look good on the great wall. Ernie says "hello", he's going outside to prepare for our own snow fall expected late tonight and probably during our a.m. commute to work in the morning. p.s. It's a girl....our first grandchild to be!

To Terry
Oh, Wow. Congrats! I hear shopping coming up. And lots of girl talk. I pray that Laura and baby are doing well. I am having great fun, but extremely busy. I really do enjoy the down time on the weekends. Hope to get some help from another volunteer next week. I will be able to get out and about some more. Say hello to Ernie and your Mom for me. Take care.

Happy Sabbath
Hi Cheryl and Ted and Brandon and Michelle, Thanks for your nice note. Things are still going well. I was joined by two other volunteers this week and that made my class much easier and helped me to hang out a bit and have even more fun. I have come to the end of my first assignment and now I am moving on to the Shaanxi History Museum to help the docents there. We had two days of blue skies (hazy, not smoky) so I was happy for that. It seemed to make things much colder, though. I was not happy for that. Anyway, hope you are doing well and that the new-baby-on-the-way and her mom are well. Take it easy and check out my blog, which I plan to update by tomorrow night. Love to all.
