Well hello there 😊
So here I am on the South Island at long long last. Christchurch is very English. So English in fact that every street is named after a place in England and the River is called the Avon River and it's all in the region known as Canterbury.
I got here the day before New Years Eve and spent the day exploring while I waited to meet the friends I'd made in Auckland who've all been here for a couple of weeks. I made myself go up the tower of the Cathedral, but it wasn't that great up there. There were too many high rise buildings to really enjoy the view and there were only 4 small platforms to get on to look out at so it wasn't really a full 360 degree view.
The Gondola was a little more interesting though, as it took us 1km up a steep mountain and gave us a great view over the city, out to the Pacific and round the back to some of the mountain ranges here in Canterbury.
I start working in the hostel here on Friday, which will give me some time to look
for a paying job and/or work out my next movement, so far all I know is I'm going on a day trip to Hanmer Springs on Thursday (gotta love those natural spas) and my Finnish buddy has suggested we get ourselves to Nelson and maybe do some vineyard work, but I have so many places I want to see down here, my bag is thick with leaflets of places I want to go and things I want to do!
So not many adventures lately but I'll let you know as soon as I get one 😊
All the best for 2010
Greg
