Elephants on trek down
After carrying people on the 1.7km trek up to the first level of the fort. From Pushkar on to the capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur. Known as the Pink City because so many of its buildings are painted a terracotta pink, it is possibly the only "modern" city in the state - with wide streets, and more western type shopfronts in some areas. Nevertheless it is quintessentially India with that the wonderful, vibrant mix of colour, costumes, street markets, cows, camels etc. (Although noticeably fewer in the streets as the bikes and cars take precedence).
A much tidier and cleaner city to walk around than any of the previous...some wonderful places to see - The City Palace; The Observatory (a wonderful sculptural garden featuring huge ancient structures with glorious shapes that were used hundreds of years ago to measure times, days, seasons etc);the Fort (and the fantastic elephant rides) and the Water Palace. Have a lot of photos, and getting a bit too tired to sit down and edit them all out, so have divided Jaipur into two blog entries, to make easier to access the photos)
