Dyed hair
We need to match this old guy up with a blue haired lady Galib & I decided to adventure outside of Karachi...about 2 hours away to another city called Hyderabad. Ramzan Uncle offered to drive us there on the Super Highway and return on the National Highway. Well, thank god Suzuki makes good cars. Ramzan Uncle ensured he tuned her up before our big adventure on the major road way. We were to take the Super Highway there and the National Highway upon return.
The Super Highway was quite a bumpy ride, pot holes every few feet, Ramzan Uncle swerving to avoid oncoming traffic as there are no lines on the highway or dodging wandering donkeys that don't seem to care if you are coming at them at 100 km per hour.
We visited the city of Hyderabad, a lot dirtier than Karachi and a bit more run down, but still very interesting. We ate real Pakistani food at "Indus". Fish, naan, and some other tasty dishes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. We also visited the infamous "Bombay Bakery". With so much money coming in...they have full time armed security guards at the entrance.
Next, Ramzan Uncle drove us to the tombs of Makli. Over half a million people buried within 6
Goats
Goats eating what looked like a pile of garbage square miles. It was quite the archaeological wonder. The bright colors painted on the tombs, the crumbled walls...a site to visit for sure.
Another awe inspiring wonder is the trucks packed with sugar cane. One ponders how the truck could possibly fit one more bunch. It is over packed, over stuffed, over crowded, speeding down the highway at over 100 km an hour....and luckily for us, we are in the tiny green Suzuki, directly behind it. But, thank goodness, Ramzan Uncle puts the pedal to the metal and we burn past it in 4th gear.
Along the National Highway we looked out the car window and saw huts, villages, people, donkeys, ox, all sorts of visual stimuli to keep us occupied for hours as we drove....drove and drove.
Oh, and surprisingly enough, drag does exist in Pakistan. Go figure.
Til the next Blog,
Cin & Galib
