Bangkok Noi
Waiting for the train Its off to Kanchanaburi. We need to get to Bangkok Noi Railway station. At first the taxi doesn't know where it is, but after a bit of discussion we get it cleared up. Six of us pile into the Corolla or whatever it is and head off. At 6.50 am there is not too much traffic fortunately, and the trip is only about 15 minutes. There is a huge Fruit and Vegetable market at the train station, and we are stuck in traffic which has Corry and Christine a little fretful. Got the tickets and Isabella, Liam, Harry and I head off to get some breakfast. Food is a bit different here, and we got a selection for the trip. It takes about three hours, not to many tourists, pretty much a local service, so we had plenty of looks. Quite a nice trip, get to see plenty along the way. There were a number of Thai kids despite being Monday, and one was looking at me all the trip, and another playing with Corry. Very cute.
We arrived at our accommodation and fortunately they could fit us in. The town was full over the weekend, they have a sound
Breakfast
Breakfast and light festival at the River Kwae Bridge for the last week of November and the first week of December. We are on a floating Raft house, good accommodation and good location, and great coffee.
We relaxed through the afternoon, then went for a walk towards the bridge. The walk is a bit "Bali" bars etc, not too attractive really. There is a really big market at the bridge. We booked for the Sound and Light Show, this is big with the Thais, but didn't seem to be many tourists. We knew there was a festival on, but were not able to find out much about it. Its was really well done, accurate and descriptive history, and then fireworks and sound that were a reenactment of the attack on the bridge. It was absolutely fabulous, and I'm not sure why it has reached the tourists as yet. They even have radio's for tourists with a translation.
Afterwards we went into the markets and got some dinner. Good assortment of food, and different to Bangkok. Clothes are pretty cheap in these markets too. We got a Sangtheaw back to our accommodation.
