Dublin, Ireland.
To say it's raining when I wake up is putting it mildly. I guess the West Coast of Ireland was actually flooding, so Dublin was lucky and just very drenched. I decide that before taking off for the day, I should recharge my camera batteries so I pull out my US to UK converter and plug that in. Then I plug in my battery recharger. It makes a funny, quick whirring sound and then all lights go out. I try another outlet, and no sound/no lights. It died. Apparently my converter didn't convert enough and killed it. So, at some point, I'll need to buy more batteries or a Uk/European battery charger.
I started off by hopping on the Hop On/Off bus again and my first stop was
Kilmainham Gaol Museum. This was a pretty good sized prison that is no longer in use, but is now a museum to tell of its gnarly past. 95%!o(MISSING)f the tour was inside so that was a double bonus! In addition to being uncomfortable eating out on my own, I'm already tired of being a single tourist and can't wait to meet up with my tour group
in England. Everyone, yes, everyone, is with a friend/family/group. I definitely feel like an outsider but get up the gumption to ask people to take a picture of me now and then.
After the jail (I can't say that name, much less continue to type it), I got back on the bus and headed over to
Christ Church Cathedral and the
Dublina Exhibit. I went into the part of the church that is now a museum and has the Dublina Experience first. It was really geared towards kids more, so the only part I really paused over was the exhibit they had that said that the Vikings used moss as toilet paper, and they had a wax mannequin sitting on a toilet, doing his business, with an audio track of him grunting.
I head out of that part of the church and, along with many others, proceeded to circle the actual church itself many times, but can't find an opening. It's Sunday, and I'm guessing they closed for actual services and what not. Oh well. I ask if
Dublin Castle is nearby and I'm told it's just down the road so I decide to walk it.
Now, when I think castle,
I'm spoiled and think of
Edinburgh Castle that is up on a hill and you can find it easily. Unfortunately, Dublin's Castle is more of a manor home now because the original castle blew up back in yonder years. So, I took a tour of the "castle" and even went down into the cellar where they've uncovered part of the original turret and walls. It was very pretty and elegant, but not what my heart wanted. I wanted a stone castle, just like Walt Disney had promised us!
For some reason I'm feeling tired and shaky, could be because I hadn't eaten yet. I didn't feel like reliving the "lone diner" role again so I grabbed a sandwich at the deli, some dorritos and a coke and headed back to the hotel lounge. It tasted awesome! I worked on the pictures some but couldn't keep my eyes open long enough to get to this log, so I headed back to my room to watch some TV. While I could get the TV to turn on, I couldn't get a picture. I just had audio of some Irish talent show and I was too tired to try to enjoy that, so
I went to bed about 8pm and slept thru the night.
