Early start.....well it just continued on from being in the airport....took off a little delayed but was pleased that I was given a comp. upgrade to business class ( there was no first on Taca Airlines ).
What a fabulous flight and a brill breakfast to boot (after the dross on Iberia ).The landing was interesting because of the position of Cuzco in the valley, he had to make a steep bank left and approach tilted left before finally levelling off before landing.
V. small airport but the guy from the hotel was waiting for me with my name on the board.Ten minutes later and there I was at the Sonesta Posadas Del Inca. Nice welcome with a cup of coca tea ( very medicinal-we are at almost 12000 ft!! ) and a room with an excellent view of central Cuzco.....Im a stones throw from the Plaza d'Armas.
Absolutely shattered but couldnt rest and after a welcome shower headed out for a late morning brunch at the Bagdad Cafe ( their spelling!) with the best view of Cuzco from its balcony ( their claim )....it certainly was spectacular....( see photo ). I then headed off and did some photography around Cuzco.

Thats what happens when you miss the runway

I can certainly tell that I have arrived at altitude as any climbing of stairs is much more laboured....I dont have any adverse symptoms ( headaches etc.....).Met this guy back at the hotel who has a travel agency and fixed it up for him to arrange car and driver to take me around town and villages.
This evening went for a pizza opposite hotel washed down by a cusquena beer..........
Off to bed as a full day of exploring in the morning followed by a trip to the sacred valley of the incas where I stay overnight.
Enjoy the photos,
ciao,

Mario

Hey, Fat Man, Great pics - take it easy on any exercise at altitude. Still need you to do some work for me on the house in Italy !!! You don't waste any time in taking pics of the place and people. Let us know if the budget looks as if it will last the trip, and don't forget to buy me a hat with some pom-poms. Cheers and saluti from Geneva (very good meetings today), Carlo
