November 11th is Armistice Day (also known as Remembrance Day) in Belgium and it commemorates the armistice signed between the Allies of World War I and Germany at Compiègne, France, for the cessation of hostilities on the Western Front, which took effect at eleven o'clock in the morning — the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" 1918. The date was declared a national holiday in many allied nations, to commemorate those members of the armed forces who were killed during war.

I attended the Armistice Day ceremony in Brussels that occured at the Place of Congress at 10:30am. The ceremony was really nice to see and all of the Belgian war veterans marched in a parade, they played the Belgian national anthem, and the King of Belgium, Albert II, layed flowers on the monument.

After the ceremony I went into the Brussels Cathedral, which I had never seen before, and walked around the Grand-Place and past the Manneken Pis (I always like to see if his costume changed).

Hi Sweetie I am so happy that you are experiencing everything there is in your new country. What a thoughtful way to spend the day. Do they wear poppies there? I was going to suggest that you go to Ypres in Flanders which is the inspiration for the poem - In Flanders Field - by the Canadian poet. Love ya tons - talk soon!
