Soooo for everyone who follows football it was the under 20s world cup last week friday in Egypt. Ghana vs. Brazil. everyone who is anyone over here was watching that game... Ghana has gone to the finals 4 times in total but never won, and it was time for a change. We were watching it at a campus bar type place that sells "Chinese" food. The game itself wasn't great, but it was still tied 0-0 after the full 90 and two over times... In PKs Ghana was behind, but they tied 3-3 in the first 5. from there it went to sudden death annnnnnnd GHANA WON!!!! What ensued was a massive mob of at least 1000 people running around campus in vari0ous stages of undress screaming the victory of "sweet mother ghana". Of course i was part of said mob and was told repeatedly that " Brazil we score you!!" because i apparently look brazilian...
IT was a truly lovely celebration that was on the edge of being out of control. it was the first time that any African nation has won this title, and it confirms in many Ghanaian's minds that they are the forerunner of the continent.

Saturday for some unknown reason i decided that i would try my hand at mountain biking, and we went to a place in the highlands about an hour away. we had a guide and really nice bikes, but that did not improve my mountain biking skills in the least. Short of being flung over the handle bars, i had about every kind of bump and bruise imaginable. the "path" was a generous ten inches wide with lovely rocks and tree stumps on either side. Also, i dont know how it was possible, but we seemed to go downhill for about 90 percent of the time yet we ended up where we started. That is something i will not repeat since i really havn't a clue about Mtn biking and am afraid to ride in the streets generally. I think i was more scared there than in the whole drowning incident to give you an idea of things.....

good to know
Do you remember in grade school when you had to take those tests, and it said that you could pursue any career that you wanted? Well, now you know that you don't want to be a mountain biker. :P haha Hope you have water and power soon. Love, Momba

Castles and Soccer
The castle trip sounded a lot more reasonable and comfortable than some of your other adventures. I'm sure that most tourists don't gain full understanding and significance of a local culture's "icons". The walk on the canopy did sound a bit scary, even if supposedly safe. You got a real sense how other cultures value a soccer team/game in comparison to the USA which has so many different sports, with football and baseball topping the list in popularity. Internationally, it is sooooooo important for a soccer team to win as it represents the nation's identity and intergrity. You really got a taste of what that is like. Stay safe and take care. Much Love.
