Its Diwali night, 2009…. On my terrace, watching the panorama of Mumbai city, lights all over, firecrackers going off….its beautiful… and I ask myself why I am where I am?

My decision to take a break from work was made in 2007… on an evening post many client calls, with a drink (actually after many drinks 😊 I asked myself… “where do you go from here…?” “What are you doing with your life?”,,, eternal questions, no answers…

But after a few more weeks and gallons of scotch/wine, at least the goal was clear… “happiness”… simple goal, but there was no clear way of knowing what happiness meant, what the parameters were or how to get there…

More client calls, more alcohol…

Then the options became clearer (thanks to a client)… a) get married, have kids and be happy making a family (scary thought of losing independence…), b) u are a capitalist, care only about money/fame, so keep slogging (equally scary thought… )

The final answer to the question of finding “happiness” came at a time I don’t remember… but I remember the answer… and it was “You don’t know, go and discover”…

And discovery meant, breaking the shackles, going out of your comfort zone (not the reality show types 😊… discovery meant just becoming human…

And with that much clear, I spoke to my boss… saying I want to travel… this was eve of my birthday, 2007…

But such is life, you plan, you fail, you get up and you go for your goal… took me 2 years to fulfill that plan

So here I am… 2009 diwali… ready to discover happiness… don’t know what I will find… but I know this much… I am not scared…
